A national exhibit featuring portraits of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their families will open Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 1165 N.W. Monroe Ave.

"Love Makes a Family" is part of a touring exhibit of photos and stories created by the Family Diversity Project in an effort to dismantle "the destructive power of prejudice and intolerance."

An opening reception at 7 p.m. will include a performance by the women's choir Jubilate! at 7:30 p.m. and light refreshments. The exhibit will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through April 18.
