Well I finally got around to trying this, and they seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. Granted, I tried this through their online chat to avoid using my voice on the phone, so maybe I was talking to the wrong person. I guess I'll have to call and see what happens...

Stephanie

The online chat is usually more for using the website than actually helping with coverage. Definitely call them!!!!

I actually went to one of their offices yesterday and outed myself to them to try to get more information. They could find no references anywhere to "Patient Care Coordinators" and they suggested that maybe that's something that's available in other states, but not here in Florida, where apparently "Florida Blue" is a separate entity. I know where you are, but I'm not sure where @Brooke is from.

In any case, the nurse I talked to acknowledged that there is a mad scramble for healthcare this year because everyone is terrified of what our government is going to do to it. And her answer to my question about whether BCBS would continue coverage for GCS if the mandate was removed was, "They're a for-profit organization..." She then corrected herself and said, "Well, they're a non-profit organization, but still..." Gee, thanks.

I'll be writing more in my thread about my meeting, but her conclusion was the same as yours: call them. [emoji849]

Steph,

I'm by no means an expert on this matter.  I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.

If you are getting your coverage through your employer it's your employer who dictates what is/isn't covered.  If your company wants to cover it then it's a done deal.

If you are an individual then you should read the covered items.  As you know it's not necessarily black & white.

Good luck

Another magic phrase I found when working with BCBS Massachusetts was to ask for a transgender care specialist first off when you call the patient line.  I don't know if the Florida division has those but it's certainly worth a try.  They had the ability to look up what was covered and rarely did I get conflicting info out of them.

The other thing to do is check with HR and take a look at the policy, they have it and it might be posted on your company intranet if you have one.
