What an interesting morning.  A boy at the school I work at came in with his hair done into a point on the front.  He said he was a unicorn today, it's a spirit day of some sort.  While we did our before school activities, we began discussing favorite colors; his were pink and purple.  Of course another boy and a little girl immediately start making fun of him for liking "girl" colors.  I intercede and look at them and say; "colors don't have a gender, he likes what he likes.  Besides, I like black and blue, does that make me a boy?"  The boy looked all shocked, and said no, as did the other students.  The youngest girl, however, says "You look like a boy."  I simply said, "We can't all be born pretty."  She never misgenders me, so I found this statement humorous.

They also asked me why I wasn't there yesterday, which was because of lasering my face.  I of course told them about it, and received the question "Did you die?" from one of the youngest in my group.

You sound like Artesia Linkletter!  (In reference to Art Linkletters show where he would highlight what children say)

BTW ... what a wonderful lesson for them to learn!

@Artesia
I am reading this as not only interesting but also as very good news....
YES indeed, kids will say the darnedest thing things.
They are at the age of innocence, but unfortunately most will become adults with less innocent viewpoints.

Thank you for posting this... it made my day.
Hugs,
Danielle

Maybe it won't be so bad for them.  They seem to be off to a good start, anyway.  As the song in South Pacific goes,

You've got to be taught before it's too late
Before you are six or seven or eight
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught

@MaryT
I love that portion of the lyrics of the song that you posted....
what is stated there is so true but sometimes so difficult to achieve...
... but I agree that it might not be as bad as I intimated....  hopefully so.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts in reply to my comment posting.
Hugs,
Danielle

I'm glad I could bring some smiles.  Hopefully, my time with these children will influence them in a positive way.

I've found that the reverse is also true :)
I left the door open, only a few came through. such is my life.

Being born pretty is an accident of genetics. What we do with our bodies is more important than which bodies we were given.  We all have to play the cards we were dealt.

BTW, I love Unicorn Hair too!
