I am wondering how many of you experienced your body hair specifically chest, stomach, back, and shoulders going away to the point of not needing to shave any longer after you went on hormones? If that's the case how long did it take before you no longer needed to shave at all in those areas? Love and faith.

My apologies for posting this before doing a search. This topic has been discussed a lot over the years. Sadly the responses aren't as encouraging as I had hoped for but at least it does appear that there is some average effect on body hair across the board. I have some pretty thick hair especially on my chest. I'd love for that to go away completely. Happy Saturday. Love and faith.

Dear Gabrielle:
I can only speak for myself.... HRT did not make my body and face hair disappear entirely.
Bear in mind, as you stated, you have read various discussions of HRT affecting body hair and there are no universal conclusions that fit all individuals.

Pre HRT, my body hair and face hair was always fairly light and thin.... and within about a year of HRT it did get even lighter and thinner to the point that I did not have to shave my face but once a week, and chest hair and other body hair about every 2 weeks.... but it did require extra means to finally get rid of it with out the hassle of shaving frequently... but for me because of my previously light and thin hair the final results are excellent.

Every body is different, and everyone's results may be entirely and uniquely their own.....   so that is my disclaimer.

Continue reading the various threads and posts here on the Forums, you should be able to find information about what others have experienced.

Your levels will have to be consistent (in female range) for some time for the best effects on body hair. That means no disruptions like stopping hormones or/if your dosages for some reason are off, progress will be slowed.
So again consistency is important. Getting levels checked every few months and making sure those numbers are in the proper range will help. There's no guarantee though.
I also recommend going for professional waxing early on and taking necessary precautions to avoid ingrown hairs and blemishes.
That's something I wish I did, but at a year on hrt body hair is finally starting to grow back slower it seems.

There is a double YMMV in effect here.  Not only does people's response to HRT vary, but there is so much variation in body hair going into the process.

My body hair was always sparse to nonexistent.  I never had enough on my back or shoulders to make it worth my while actually checking for it.  To the best of my knowledge, I never had any there.

I did have a few dozen dark hairs on my chest.  Once I had started on the road to transition, I started shaving them.  After about six months on HRT, they were down to about six hairs around my areolae, all blond and very fine.  I only notice them when the light catches them just so, and it takes me a couple of seconds to deal with them.

Leg hair is similar.  My legs were my hariest part, but still less than average for a guy.  HRT has made the hairs finer and lighter, and there are fewer of them.  I shave them if I notice them, but they do not look out of place on a woman's legs.

My facial hair grows slower now.  Most of the changes there are due to electrolysis.

VA raising hand as not having to shave anything but my beard after 2 1/2 years on HRT (Started estrogen therapy at 48 with moderately heavy brown body hair).

-After 6 months it was no longer necessary to shave the fine vellum hair on my chest
-After a year and a half it was no longer necessary to shave the fine vellum hair under my my arms or use a thinning comb on my forearms for the hair to fall in the normal female range
-After 2 1/2 years it was no longer necessary to shave the fine vellum hair on my legs

As important as shaving was to my female alter, it was a HUGE source of dysphoria for me. It was a relief for us both to reach a comfortable balance with the body. Almost 9 years on HRT I do thin/trim my pubic hair in the summer so my female alter can wear a bikini at the beach. And I wear a Van Dyke the five days a week I have the body.

At about six months combined with a few laser treatments I no longer have to shave my back or chest for the most part. I noticed my arm hair too went from coarse and thick to fine and light hair. I didn't notice any changes in my beard I had to get a significant amount of laser to get the hair removed. Most of what's left is all gray and blonde now. Laser is great combined with HRT and not too expensive.

I am at ~7 months estradiol and ~3 months Spiro. My wife just asked me last night when the last time was that I had attempted to remove back hair. Well, I only tried twice, once was before meds, and it's been a while. My arms can't get the epilator around there (I'm no contortionist). Well, apparently, I don't have any back hair left. Granted, I wasn't a fur ball back there but (according to my wife) I did have some decent spotty patches that no longer exist.

That got me thinking about my current hair removal processes. While I get worked up over sprouting hair (very OCD about it), my legs, chest, and belly are not spouting like they used to .. YAY! slowdown commences.

to the OP .. I only shaved body hair once in desperation .. it caused a horrendous mess of ingrown hairs that I had to clear up (took forever). I only epilate, then tweeze the stragglers, now .. not recommended for those of you intending to get them zapped off. Epilating takes about 5 mins now with very few stragglers.
I left the door open, only a few came through. such is my life.

My body hair left pretty rapidly, other than a stray hair here or there. Within about a year I no longer needed to do the removal on my torso, front or back. Like many women, I still shave my legs about once a week, trim or remove the bush as desired etc. Even hair on my arms and hands became mostly light vellus hair.

As body hair was the source of almost all the body dysmorphia I had, this was a huge victory for me and HRT.
