I am struggling with which name to use when go to a job interview. I go out as a female fulltime. I've been telling everyone to address me as Jinnie instead of my birth name.

However, some of the hiring process may require me to put down "correct" information; for example, back ground check or drug test will need my identification.My plan is to use my preferred name and use my given name when filing those documents. But I just don't know if it is appropriate to do so?

Any advice or suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

If you're full-time why not just change your name? Anyone over 18 can change their name to anything they like.

It's because I want to be financially stable before I can proceed to change my name. If I am going to change my name, there are many other documents including my license to practice that will also need to be changed.

My suggestion: use your legal name on the forms as false information can be grounds for dismissal. But use your real name in interviews and simply state that "I prefer to be addressed as Jinnie."

Often common usage name changes are allowed in various states so there your free to use whatever name you chose. It's more complex if you need to fill out paper work for a security check or provide your social security number as that must match government records. As for job applications, hope that you will find a legal and preferred option on the form.

You might consider asking what the information is going to be used for as you will be able to discover if they are anti LGBT and if they are, you may not want to work there.
