Thank you all for the well wishes, I tried to reply earlier, but I'm having a bit of trouble shaking the meds. I was allowed black coffee in the morning before surgery, but that didn't seem to have an effect on my blinding headache soon after returning home. I had some broth, it didn't stay down, I had some jello, that didn't stay down. This morning all the sips of water I took at night didn't stay down.... I'm wiped out.
Love you all, Jess
It sounds like we share something in our responses to general anesthesia. I also have a pounding headache the day after, and nausea for a couple days. After GCS i had anti-nausea and painkillers in my IV for a few days. On other procedures that had me out of the hospital quickly after general anesthesia, wow. Ow.
Try just holding ice chips in your mouth without swallowing. This helps with hydration and seemed to settle the nausea and headache a little bit. I had an anti-nausea drug I could take after surgery, and I took it daily for the first couple of days after FFS, which helped. I also took a painkiller sublingually to address the anesthesia 'hangover', that bad headache.
All of this does pass pretty quickly. Try to spend today (day after surgery) as relaxed as possible, napping or dozing, while your body flushes out all the odd chemicals from surgery and anesthesia.
Hugs and wishes for you to feel better quickly,
Michelle P.
