I happened to watch at a customers house, she was pretty closed minded at the beginning, but between Oprah and a few little things I said, by the end she was actually pretty accepting of it.

I didn't see all of it, but it was not as bad as I expected.

It does have people talking so any push in the right direction, especially from someone with Oprahs viewership is probably a good thing. There is a pretty large thread on one of my forums discussing it as well and that has gone pretty good.

People are curious, which is far better than fear and hate.

It was not a train wreck. In fact I recorded and and I'm watching it again. Sitting and listening to them (Thomas and his wife Nancy) I understand fully now the entire situation. I can grasp it because I read this book

Almost every question that has been asked on this forum and will be asked in the future is explained in that book. There are all types of people on the gender scale.

If anything ....we all know what ->-bleeped-<-s are...girls with functioning boy parts. Thomas is the publics first Hemale (My term of him) A male with functioning female parts. There is nothing wrong with it. I'm proud of his courage and He has just as much a right to be who he is as any one of us.

I'm glad I was able to watch it over and over. Maybe you all should see it. You may learn something. Thomas is not a freak and is a kind loving person. I would love to meet him. He is an inspiring and wonderful human being. My opinion has changed 100%.

any time if they stopped T (that's one of the reason for wanting them out).
Keeping them introduces the possibility of reproductive organ cancers and doctor not wanting to
treat it, not a good thing (someone has died already from this).

Same thing with pre-ops or non-ops MTF, are you telling me their she-males because
they might conceived in the future willingly or by accident, even with estrogen
there could be active sperms and a MTF could actually get somebody pregnant (it has happened).

   I'm okay with Thomas.   I have no issues at all with his condition (pregnancy).  As long as he is fine with it and it's not harmful, I don't see any reason to get excited or disturbed.

  I'm kind of hoping that this will be an experience that will increase awareness of the genpop (general population) concerning TS people and the rest of us lovely people hanging out throughout the spectrum.

   You haven't heard anyone here disparage the man, have you?  I'm just curious because, so far, I've only read concerns about how the genpop might react or how Thomas might be treated by Oprah.

This isn't the first time for this.  In fact I've read of an MtF/FtM couple that each had functional reproductive systems conceiving and giving birth (the father, of course) to a child.  My doctor, an FtM, told me he'd heard of several instances of this.  I think it's wonderful!  Good for them.

I heard the show more than watched it.  I was laying on the table at my electrologist's office and she had it on the TV. 

I just saw it, and I thought it was quite respectful. Even the question about "why not wear men's clothes" was, in context, a logical response to what Thomas had said.

It's made me feel better about the going public with it. I've been very disturbed by the negative coverage and the possibility that it might lead to a requirement for a hysto before changing legal gender, but this gives me hope. Oprah seems to be a major cultural influence in the US and to have her treat it as respectfully as she did is helpful (although "when did you start transgendering" was, I hope just a muddle mouth thing and not what she thinks the actual terminology is).

That's true, Keira, and while there was reference to the trouble they had finding doctors, I'd like to have seen a reference to Robert Eads included there. Wouldn't mind seeing her do a segment on that part of discrimination.

The transgendered community pretty much shunned him. He explained that on the show. 1/2 did not reply to him the other half told him it was a bad idea and shouldn't go on Oprah because the world was not ready for this.

I coined the term Hemale because this person identifies as a man but kept the genitals and reproductive system intact. Men don't have babies or don't want to birth babies I'm pretty sure. To me a transsexual changes sex. When you change sex you take on the role of a traditional male or traditional female. A traditional male does not get pregnant and give birth. A traditional female does not have a penis to penetrate a partner to get them pregnant. A transsexual becomes either a traditional male or traditional female. This person is something other than a transsexual. Even Oprah was confused. If this is a whole new deal than transsexuality just went to a  new level.

I don't know of any ->-bleeped-<-s that identify as men. Maybe Geographical locations has something to do with that.
I don't wish to debate definitions and terms with you. Susan posted a thread of definitions for the various gender types. Look it up.

Well, your opening a can of worms here because your basically saying a non-op and pre-op
is not a TS!!

Many many many FTM are not able to get their ovaries removed, can't get them removed
(doctor's dont want to) or don't want to chance a very invasive and expensive surgery for
not much upside, since the outside genital surgery is very expensive and not very conclusive.

Are you going to tell me that all those people are he-males! or not TS.

The she-male term is almost exclusively linked to the porn industry, look it up...
And there are plenty in them with fetishist and gay backgrounds who would not identify
as female.


The whole "traditional" thing linked seemingly in your head with sexuality kinds of loses me.
So, a FTM can't really be a man until he gets a penis? Didn't know gender was so linked
to genitals and reproductive organs...

Also, once we've established that someone with their ovaries can be a TS and a
full blown male, while not traditional (whatever that means), well why not have a child.

Transsexuals HAVE to take on 'traditional' gender roles?!  Since when and according to whom exactly?!  Are transsexual men and women not allowed to be anything other than a stereotype.  Jesus, no wonder a significant proportion of the feminist community hates us.

Last time I checked, transsexuality was a medical condition, not about masturbating over gender roles.
