Every step of my journey there are letters needed. Letter to start my hormones. A carry letter. A letter approving my gender marker change on my ID. Yet a different letter to change my gender marker on my birth certificate. Letters to be approved for GCS.

There is so much documentation about who I am. About my mental fitness for the process of transition. Yet there are people who still think that transgender people are mentally ill. These are people I laugh at now.

My biggest question is when will the rest of the world catch up with the medical world in understanding this is not a mental condition?

I have been so thoroughly examed by psychiatrist and Psychologists for this process, whilst there are so many people that are delusional making decisions and policies for transgender care. Not only is it not fair it can be downright scary. which is why I will fight until the day I die.

Hi Melissa Ann,  Society's have the biggest changes happen where education is embraced, which allows for free thinking, those thrive. The ones that don't do this are likely to be repressive and will slowly take one step forward and two steps back. 
Education is the key to any change.  Where I live in California I think we are ahead of the learning curve, but I still find some that have learned a fallible concept.  It's a slow process, all the same though in 40+ years things have changed to a point where I feel comfortable transitioning now.

Ya know Melissa Ann, I never thought about it that way - all the letters, all the documentation.  Yet think of all that one can do without needing anything other than the will to do it.

But not where I live.  LOL  I think we found the most conservative "backwards" place on the whole west coast to live. 

The requirements for some of these letters are downright ludicrous. The absence of one little detail can throw a wrench in the whole system, at times when it matters most. Surgeons and doctors don't have the most flexible schedules and a delayed letter can mean many months of delay for GCS, HRT or other serious and immediate matters.

You're a lot stronger than I. I'm in a fragile place where I cannot change some of my documents and it's backward enough that stealth's a necessity. So all I can really do is wait for my state to follow your example or become even more ignorant and force me out.

Keep fighting the good fight, sister. For those who can't, we appreciate it.
