...like a nasty comments section, or a depressing and invalidating news article, etc., what do you do to bring yourself back up?

Some days, I don't know why I click on certain things, I swear they won't affect me and then I feel super nasty after reading. I generally don't click, but sometimes OOPS I clicked.

Bonus points if you struggle with anxiety and have an answer for this question.

I don't have any answers. But I tend to do the same thing. I always watch the news articles for trans related stories. Sometimes I wish I just hadn't clicked.

Oh, I thought I was the only one silly enough to do such things. I am drawn to the more conservative Christian sources of news, to see what they think and why. I say to myself, I'll be okay, it's all about research!

But it is a risky thing to do. I have lost sleep with worry after some of the things I have read.

I don't have an answer. Just don't do it.

Now please excuse me, while I go off and read the latest on BreakPoint.

It's a bad habit that's hard to break.  ;D

Lisa

Bad habit, or inexpensive form of entertainment? There are worse ways to spend some time! ;D

The best way to deal with being sensitive to comments in my case was to spend a lot of time in YouTube comment sections seeing a lot of them. Complete desensitization with a few weeks.

Now anyone would have a job getting a rise out of me over a bit of typing.

Try to think of pleasant thoughts and experiences.   :)

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

I love being stirred up on line. It doesnt happen often but can be great for honing sarcasm and escalating the ante.

Wit often escapes me at the worst time though.

It can be hard to take online stuff seriously. Too easy so see it as the worthless junk it really is.

Kind regards, Kirsten.

It's not a place anyone can actually truly "escalate" really, is it? They can swear, they can insult your mother or claim they're coming around to kill you, or otherwise act like a 5 year old. Unless as an internet user you were very foolish and revealed where you live and leave your spare keys or your passwords... chances are it's all talk (worthless talk as you say).

I find it amusing too. I'm not in the habit of trolling, but if someone decides to get personal with me I've got a bigger vocab and reserves of mischief than the average "muh degenerates" internet twerp.

As for people who publish anti-trans stuff online and can't be directly interacted with, well I'm against censorship in all its forms, but that doesn't mean their comment section's safe from me. Ho ho.

This is probably going to sound stupid but I watch Baby Shark on YouTube, it usually breaks me out of whatever mood I am in. Then I watch Israel's version of Over the Rainbow. I know, corny right? It gets me out of a bad mood and into a relaxed mood every time.

Very well put. My sentiments too. That is a very important point about where you live and anonymity.

In the ideal world the internet would be the place for unbridled debate and discussion
For some reason it always turns childish before it goes anywhere.

I know Facebook is a platform used for trans debate and we probably have a responsibility to put the positives out there and educate people. The cyber slights and bad comments shouldnt upset us too much - its only Facebook & essentially not real.

Lots of people out there with an axe to grind. Don't put your head on the chopping block.

Beings trans is hard. It's hard to read a validating story about us only to see the comments by the knuckle draggers. I used to fall victim to this too, then I just realized screw em all I'm doing what I must and need to keep myself safe and loves

To be honest, those comments or articles don't bother me at all.  Most of them are based on no real facts, or shady facts that a simple analysis shows how stupid they are!  The only thing some of the better ones do, they make me mad and I do research to prove them ow stupid they are!

I don't know whether it is because of my age or my medial training that hardly anything can bother me.

Yes!! One of my favorite on line hobbies. I consider it the highest honor when some right wing nut job calls me a troll.

It is rather strange since I'm no where close to being a left winger. I'm an Anarcho-Capitalist. Our guiding principle is the Nonaggression Principle, or NAP. If you use force to take something from someone that they don't want to give you, make them do something they don't want to do, or stop them from doing something that isn't hurting anyone else, you're wrong. Always wrong.

Anyways, here is some Divine Intervention.

Denice, that was the best link ever. Thank you.

You can never take back the time of your life spent arguing on the internet, that's for sure.

I just have to Not Engage. Not even peek. Lesson learned.

I always wonder what possesses people who say they care nothing about trans people to put out the effort to bash someone. It must be a power issue, a reaffirmation of their power over someone. Letting them upset us offers them that power on a silver platter. I would goof on them if I did anything. If you remember the character Stephen Colbert used to play, that is perfect. Agree with them while making it blatantly obvious your argument is moronic.
If I ever offend you, let me know. It's not what I am about.

I agree Happymoni !

Taking the piss out of an antagonist is a worthy skill. Not only good sport but very satisfying.

I would love to be better at it.

The Stephen Colbert approach is something to aspire to- a clever guy!

Different strokes but, if you're keen to eliminate your personal weaknesses like I am, getting to the point of desensitization will mean you never have to care about running into it again.
