As part of my transformation regime I am losing some weight. I'm not that overweight but want to develop a better figure. I am managing to bring my tummy in but want to try and start to develop some sort of hour glass figure. OK, I know that hormone treatment will move some fat onto my hips, which will help. But hormone therapy is still probably  way off yet. So I was wondering if anyone knows how to get my sides at my waist to come in a bit without doing exercises which simply builds up my muscle.

I'm not aware of much you can do besides exercises that slim and tone your waist area.

My experience tells that only regular anaerobic exercise can make you achieve it.

I have regularly but slowly run for about 1 hour during the past 15 years. I am not quite sure whether body figure can be included in an hour-glass figure, but I am relatively slim compared with the same age basket.

I maintain a large collection flowing shrubs, mostly from a squatting position.  I can do this for hours!  It could be genetics, I'm not on HRT, but I have a thin waist and ample fat in my thighs and butt for a 32-26-32 figure.  Which is about as girly as it gets for anyone over 50.

My exercises are similar to what one would do in rehab, range of motion and balance exercises.  Though I'll also do more strenuous upper body exercises like sawing wood.  When I'm in shape I can saw a 4" log in half.

I would suggest corset training ( google it ) drug free but not pain free   It does however, work.

Your time will very, but by two or three years on HRT your waste will or should shrink.  You can do what barbi suggested and what I do to help that by running.  The goal to reduce the waste by running is to run for at least 30 minutes.  You will also develop a runners body though.  My boobs have shrunk a lot.  My legs are slim.  Arms, shoulders, everywhere is slim.  I went from 180ish to 145 to 149.  Today I weighed 147.

I'm verry happy with my hourglass shape.

I run about 4 days a week 3 to 5 miles a day.  It took me a good year with diet and running to drop 30lbs.  It is harder losing weight being a woman so we have to work at it longer.

You can do it!
I've taken what others have offered, so now I'm giving back.

Thanks all

I used to do a lot of running but stopped a good few years back, which I still regret. I did start trying to run again although it was very slow building up the distance. And when I had just started to get to a reasonable distance I had a bit of and accident. It wasn't a running accident, but it stopped me running. I'm recovered now and should really get back to running. It's getting the motivation and off my backside  :)

Any possible injury is a reason why I always run very slowly at the speed of walking very fast, i.e., 5 km or 3  miles per hour. In the long-term, running too fast can cause various injuries in the backbone, the knees or the ankles. I stretch after running. The following stretching movement has been very effective for protecting my knees during the past 15 years:

1. Sit down on the floor or any chair
2. Bend your right leg, and grasp your right foot with your right hand.
3. Press your right knee with your left hand, and try to stretch fully your right leg as the above photo. (It is not easy at the first time, but try again and again even though you can stretch the leg only partially).
4. Repeat 20-30 times until you can fully stretch your right leg.
5. Repeat the same for your left leg.

This is not easy at all at first, but you can do it once you repeat this stretching method everyday.

If you have still injury problems, riding a bike is an excellent alternative. During this summer, I tried mountain biking, touring around my hometown. For example:

I am sure technically you can loose 2-3 kg (or 4-6 lbs) within a day by riding a bike. But, the speed of the bike tends to make it more dangerous than running, especially here in my country where car drivers are aggressive.

To help with my knees I do trail running.  Running on the pavement just kills my body.  Since I moved to Colorado I don't have the grassy prairie trails like I had in Iowa..  I miss running on prairie grass a lot.

Yes. Unpaved or grassy side roads are far better to run or walk on. They are also good for preventing dementia than predictable paved roads. Fortunately here we also have a lot of grassy prairies.

I could ride a mountain bike on prairies, too.

That looks beautiful.

Yes, streets are really bad.  I want to tell all of the young people running to stop and find a trail.

I've just had a Brazilian butt lift with implants which is the best surgical solution, the surgeon can sculpt the waist to make very real looking hips. The results look good and probably better than my stats suggest. Implants are necessary if there's not much fat.

I had 300cc implants and 600cc fat per cheek.

I'm 6 foot and 80kg. At 5 weeks post op I still have a little swelling but have gone from
Chest 39, waist 34, hip 39
to
38, 30, 43
I'm 45 around the shoulder, 50 before I started HRT. Hips were 46 after surgery and I'm told I could achieve that with more fat and a second round.

I will post a review when I can sit ;D

Not everybody can run!  I used to run 3 to 5 miles every day, until the meniscus in both knees said bye bye (unrelated to running).

My running days were over after the surgery.  I walk 4 to 5 miles every day possible, and do the mile in about 17 mins.

I also go to the gym twice a week for at least 2 hours each to do muscle strength training.  And i try now for weeks to loose 20 pounds, but it seems all the fat weight I loose is converted into muscle weight, and the scale is just smiling at me.  I am Diabetic and can't mess around to much with my diet.  I have to loose my weight by brutally working my body hard.  I am not really overweight looking (everybody tells me I should not loose any weight), but I want to be slim, and those 20 lbs are what is in between me currently and being slim!

First run achieved with plenty of stretches afterwards. The run was only just over 1/2 mile but really pleased as it seemed easier than when I was running last year. That might be the fact that I have lost a decent bit of weight.

Let's see if I can keep this up.

Awesome!  Keep at it!  Are you using a app to track your runs, calories burned, etc?

I use Runkeeper on my iPhone.
