I hope everyone is doing well and had a wonderful Christmas. I am very lucky in my family and I count my blessings every day. I am currently visiting my brother and Lori's sister (yes, you read that right) in Virginia. Everyone is doing very well using name and pronouns. They are trying, that's what counts.

I am making this post to share what my son wrote in his christmas card to me. I wanted to post a snapshot, we forgot to bring the card with us. I do have the text of what he wrote. Part of what made it special is the fact he is mildly autistic. His fine motor skills are rough, he cannot write well. He took extreme pains to make sure that what he wrote was legible.

I do have the text of what he wrote (he gave us print in case we couldn't read it). This is what he wrote, minus the 'gift' that he gave .. the text would have been gift enough ....

Acceptance is the best gift, your son is great! I have to admit these few lines made me emotional too.

Faith this is a wonderful gift you have received.  Your son is certainly full of insight, empathy and love.  You've raised a beautiful young man.

Faith, I am glad you had a good Christmas visiting family.  I am glad that they are accepting you.

The inscription from your son's card is beautiful!  It made me a little bit teary.  He sounds like a wonderful young man.

Well, from the words your son wrote he clearly has a deeper understanding of social interaction and communication that would serve as a lesson to many.

That was wonderful and I too got very teary eyed.

Thank you all for your kind responses, it is indeed a wonderful thing.

Tolerance isn't acceptance. Sometimes you cannot tell which it is until you are specifically told. All three of my children have, in one way or anther, shown their acceptance. It is very uplifting. I find I lean on the acceptance as I meet resistance not just from outside, also from inside my own head.
