In my support group, there is a major with 23 years of service. She was not out as MtF. In the process of trying to find an avenue to continue her HRT after her transfer to this area she was stymied at every turn because when it became know she was in the military, everyone turned her away. Even operations that were supportive because they feared involvement with people who are the military's responsibility for health care. In her exasperation, she had a suicidal episode where she reached out for help that got back to her command. The result- she has lost her security clearance and she can no longer perform her job.
On the plus side, she is now out to her new military psychiatrist and others who are responsible or her physical. mental and spiritual health. Last I spoke with her, she was not out to her command. It is hard to tell if this will result in her discharge from the service before she is hoping to leave.
This attitude toward us has destroyed an asset that the military invested 23 years to develop. She was asking for nothing more than to serve to full retirement just as she had done for 23 years.
WTF,
