I'm having a bit of trouble finding information on the cost of bottom surgery and which surgeons are the best to go to. By bottom surgery, I mean having things changed from what they are to as complete and functional a female structure/structures as is medically possible. Having the correct, functional genitals is very important to me. Also, is there a long hospital stay after srs? My "insurance" is through the V.A since I'm 100% service connected, permanent and total, so if it's not an out patient procedure, would it be safe for me to be driven, or if need be fly, back to my local V.A hospital for in patient recouperation?

Prices vary greatly by surgeon, region, and technique. While there is no "best surgeon" you should be able to prioritize what  you're needs are to find the best surgeon for you.

Priorities may include
Price
Location
Covered by insurance
Reputation of surgeon
Technique
Aesthetics
Function
Recovery time/maintenance (dilation) time.

In terms of hospital stay, yes a hospital stay is required and is often a week or more.

I don't know what the VA covers and who they are contracted with, but that may be a starting point.

I went to Dr.McGinn and had GCS 11/25/2016. She charged $22,000 which was her charge, anesthesia and a 3 day hospital stay. I had surgery on a Tuesday and went to my sisters to recoup. Packing comes out that Monday and there is a Friday visit for a checkup.

Dr. McGinn is trans and was a Navy flight surgeon.

Cost will depend a good deal on the surgeon however $25k is a good starting point give or take a little. As for your idea of involving the VA, don't try it. The first two days after surgery you are confined to bed and possibly a pain pump. The next 4 days, you are weak as a kitten and at first you are lucky if you can walk a few hundred feet. During this time you are visited by the doctor at least once a day and the nurses check you several times a day to monitor your surgery and adjust your medication. At day 6 you receive instructions and training covering dilation. For the next couple of days you are monitored to ensure you are prepared to be released. Even at the time of release, you should take advantage of the wheel chair service available in the larger airports because it will be draining being active during your entire trip.

I really doubt that any VA has the people trained to provide this type of follow up care.

The VA currently doesn't do transgender surgery, or pay for it.

https://www.va.gov/HEALTH/NewsFeatures/2017/January/Transgender-Vets-the-VA-and-Respect.asp

The top line SRS surgeons include Marci Bowers, Christine McGinn, and Pierre Brassard. Toby Meltzer is highly regarded, although his methods is slightly different.  You would need between $20-$25K.

Marci Bowers is in San Mateo, in the San Francisco, CA area.  I'm sure there is a VA hospital in that area that could care for you afterward.

The VA is happy to provide the needed aftercare.

If you're willing to travel, there are some world-class SRS surgeons in Thailand.  Although Dr Suporn's fee is about as high as US surgeons, Dr Chettawut's fee is $10,000 USD, last I checked.  The Preecha Aesthetic Institute (PAI) is a few thousand dollars less than that.  Many of these Thai surgeons' clients are western citizens from the US, Europe, and Australia, so there's a lot of good information out there about them.  You'll even find many written accounts here on these forums about many people who went to these surgeons and had good results and experiences there.

Even factoring in the additional cost for airfare and hotel for both you and a traveling companion, the cost will be less than paying $25,000 - $30,000 to have it done in the US.

GRS is covered by all insurers in Massachusetts, your cost here is your insurance premiums plus your deductible, in my case $12,500.

Hey,

I have booked my srs surgery for 2nd of April 2019, however I am forced to postpone it. Would anybody like to exchange the date (you have your surgery faster on 2nd April, i  am interested in all the dates in late May, June of early July).

I am looking forward to all the answers.

If you're "out of pocket" I'd plan on 20-30k. I had Dr. Stiller in Moscow, ID. I am very happy with the results. I only had a 3 day stay in the hospital (surgery day +2). They're not going to let you leave immediately due to the surgery requiring special expertise if something develops. As for recouping, I was up and walking about 15 minutes after getting to the recovery room. No complications. I had to stay in the area for the (pretty much standard) 2 weeks, I had a checkup at day 5, and at day 13. Sitting is going to suck, but I had no issue with getting around, cooking, driving etc...

I doubt any srs surgeon is going to let you go far. The simple fact is that there are a very limited number of surgeons that can correct a complication.

Whoah!  Inflation sure has reared its ugly head. That's about double what my SRS by Suporn cost back in 2003 (I also paid a few thousand USD extra for a trach. shave and a nose job).  Is Suporn still requiring you to hang out around Chonburi for 4 weeks or so (which includes [depending upon how well you're healing] daily nurse's visits, and weekly or bi-weekly visits to Suporn's clinic for exams [3 or 4 blocks from the Mercure Hotel - where most of us post-ops stayed]), till he'll release you to travel home?

If you want to bring back some memories, there's a book of sorts on having srs with Suporn in 2015. You can find it if you google for Suporn pdf update, and it's the 204 page pdf. It's free.
