I just watched the latest episode, in it a race/species from another planet does not allow males to like females. Only male to male relationships. Those born female are forced changed into males.

In this episode one of them likes females, it showed the prejudice of his society towards that. And what he would do to keep this hidden. Eventually he confesses, returns to his planet where he is sentenced  to death.

So many of the episodes have depicted prejudices that other races/species have that the "humans" supposedly don't have any more.

I hope those watching the shows understand that what they are showing is how many humans still are, and how those prejudices  only hurt people.

My comments: there are so many people who are taught that the "beliefs" thier parents, thier society has is the only right way. It is so sad to me that they are not allowed to find out for themselves what is really right.
I am happy that there is a place like this site were we can learn, love, explore ourselves and others,  and support each other.
I can only hope that the future depicted in this show becomes true. Humans grow beyond thier prejudices and treat each other with the respect we all deserve.

I'm not sure if you have watched fun the beginning but they have tackled most of the LGBTQ issues, IMHO, very well.  I'm a fan!

I started watching last year, couldn't wait until this season. I watch online, as I rarely am home when it shows.

I watched the episode of The Orville you referenced.  The episode clearly showed how stupid irrational fears and prejudices can be and how hate can impede the social development of people.  Some may get the point of the episode, but most won't unfortunately.  Maybe however, it might help.  On a side note, I kind of enjoy this show.  I thought it would just be ridiculous (like Lost in Space after the first season), but oddly enough, it has found a balance between drama and humor.

I am another fan of the show! I personally liked the episode you mention. I believe that it was showing exactly how ridiculous the non acceptance of society can be.

I grew up being taught that what I was told was the only way things could be. I have a hard headed personality when it comes to people, including family, telling me what I have to believe.

I have always done my own research and follow what I find to be the truth. Unfortunately most people don't take the time to challenge their beliefs.

That episode reminded me of San Francisco. The discord between those of certain sexual preferences astounded me. Turn that discord into a planet populated by those of one sexual preference, and give them the ability to reproduce, and the repercussions would be profound.

For one, I am happy that such an entertaining program can tackle some of societies flaws for all to see. I just wish more would learn from it.
