When I was in middle school, I discovered a book called Luna by Julie Anne Peters. It was about a trans girl who became her "female" self at night; her sister being her main confidante. As she prepares to transition socially and medically, the book begins to build tension. It was one of the first novels that I related deeply with.

Another trans-themed book I read was Almost Perfect by Brian Katcher. It's about a boy who falls in love with a girl (both High Schoolers), but when he learns that she is transgender he has to make the decision: Do I still love her, or does her gender identity change that?

Just finished reading Luna while I empathized somewhat being older when I transitioned a lot of the fear etc described just didn't apply. I knew what I wanted, went for it and didn't care if people saw whatever they wanted to see...
