Yes.
I got a thyroid problem for a while which eventually corrected itself but altered my metabolism permanently. I still have to watch what I eat for sliding to extremes on either end of the scale.
Sadly it looks like I will never be able to "relax" around food. It's far too easy in my case to rack up a habit of eating junk or eating nothing and getting stuck in it. The only way I can relax in that sense is just to eat nothing and then I don't have to count calories or get into bad habits. It's especially annoying when you have particular calorie needs when you're in a relationship with someone who can eat anything they want and never get fatter or thinner, with them constantly shoving treats in your face. I don't want to have to work out for three hours every day just so I can scoff a few things they don't have to bother working off.
Shame I don't smoke or drink really, that would be a nice distraction. But at mid age I don't trust my body to stay healthy for long if I did.
I suppose one thing I used to do with is not unhealthy for a person is intermittent fasting. It's not going to hurt to have a day without eating, or to eat in the evening only etc. but it depends on what exactly the goal is. If the goal's to maintain and not gain weight, great. Fasting lowers blood pressure too. If it's to avoid becoming too thin, you need to make sure you eat something nutritious regularly at least. Don't want your hair growing brittle and falling out etc.
