Why am I waking in the night??

Hello all,

I'm sure I've read people talking about this but I can't remember exactly where.
I wake during the night for no apparent reason - no pain or anxiety that I'm aware of but there I am....awake...

Is there an HRT reason for this?

All opinions welcome.

Lol are you aging? As we get into our 50's and beyond, this becomes more common. For everybody.

There are many proposed solutions and workarounds, but it sounds like you don't have a problem getting to sleep, which is the most common problem.

Back a hundred and more years ago they spoke of the "second sleep" which took place after a period of wakefulness like you describe. People would often get out of bed and read, perhaps eat, various quiet activities. Then go back to bed. I haven't progressed to that yet myself.

If you haven't been on hormones long it will probably keep happening until your body has adjusted. Same thing happened to me in the beginning.

Sleep disturbances can be one of a whole raft of things caused by low oestrogen according to my Dr today. So may be worth checking out.

Thank God for Ambien.  I know its not the mainstream way to get sleep but its worked for me for a long time. That said - a close friend had the worst problem with it because she got out of bed and smashed her car.  So I guess I'm saying it works for me but your results may vary.  A LOT!

Well, a hundred and more years ago they would also go to bed shortly after sunset, because oil and candles for artificial light were expensive and not very effective. Especially in the winter months that meant a bedtime of over 12 hours, no wonder they would wake up in the middle of the night as if they were having jet lag...

I have the same problem.  I definitely think it's hormone related.  I wake up practically everyday sometime between 4 and 6am regardless of what time I went to bed.  I just read for a while and go back to sleep or get up and hit the gym.  :-)   This only started after starting and being on HRT for a few months.

Hello again Sonja, I woke up last night at 2:33am and looked at the clock radio for no apparent reason. I experienced the same as you: no apprehension, just simply woke in the middle of the night. Had no problem falling back to sleep either. Thought I was going to be fatigued in the morning but that didn't happen either. Glad I'm not the only one.

I find getting up and eating a couple of cookies helps with getting back to sleep.
I'm a 65 year old male who has been thinking about SRS for many years.  I also was a  full cross dresser for a few years.  I wear a bra, pantyhose and nail polish daily because it just feels right.

Started HRT April 17, 2019.

I've had that too since shortly after starting HRT. A few months in, I would regularly wake around 3:30am. Again, no worries or stress and I'd always fall asleep quickly both initially and again after waking. Now, a year into HRT, I just tend to wake up early, around 5:30am, so hopefully getting back to normal. I think the amount of sleep I get has fallen from 7 hours to about 6 hours since starting HRT but I actually feel I have more energy than before.
