Ok, so my plan is to somehow come up with the money to pay for SRS, but the question is how? I know about loans, but the purpose of this topic is to help the community and brainstorm alternate ideas that could be plausibly used to pay for SRS besides a straight bank loan. The reason I wanted to start this is that some of us don't have the credit or collateral for a bank loan. So stories of how you got the money, ideas, or links to organizations that help transsexuals get SRS are workable.

To start off, I hope to save any excess money I get, along with extra money from student loans. Thus, hopefully I have the money or at least enough to use as collateral by the time I graduate in 4 years.

It depends if you are using Dr. McGinn as your surgeon or not, but she has some volunteers that could possibly help you with financial information and planning (though they wont give you any money, they can make what you have work harder).  I was actually talking to her about it today as part of our meeting and it sounded promising and helpful.

My SO and I saved up for my SRS, it took a couple years.
If your finances are limited, you may want to consider seeing a doctor with cheaper SRS costs, such as Suporn, or Chettawut.
Before I met my SO I was considering pornography/escorting as the only possible way I could ever save up the required funds, but that's probably not what you meant by "alternate ideas". Also of questionable legality depending on where one lives.

I used excess student loan money and saved a bit from each paycheck.

I also considered pornography. Diesel (FtM) is very popular and I figured, hey...I'm good looking, surely someone would pay to see porn of me. But I'm far too shy/self conscious for that. >_>

I cashed in a whole life insurance policy that I had. It was mature and it wasn't going to grow any more, so I figured what the heck. It was more than enough. Of course I'm older and had put that money away for over 35 years. It was on my wife, so if anything should happen to her, I won't get a dime now. But if anything should happen to me, she is rich.

I'm fortunate in that I won't need to pay for HRT and SRS, but I still need to save up a lot of money for FFS and hair transplants. Currently I'm saving what money I get over on my student loans and from my part time job. My rent is fairly low so it's working out okay at the moment, but it's going very slowly. I'm going to need to find some more drastic way of gathering money eventually, especially if I have to move.
