What do you mean by basics? SRS? Think SRS is in the neighbourhood of 20 grand.

Are you a boy or a girl? :)

Depends what you want. M2F SRS goes from 10K to 20K, FFS can be over 40K. F2M SRS can be about 80K.

Basics? it's not the sort of operation to go for basics....you need to find the best surgeon for the job. It's a very serious operation and should not been taken lightly. Costs can vary considerably and I'm still reasearching my own options...

I might be wrong but I read basics as therapy, HRT, SRS, clothes, legal costs, ect.

There is only one cost...

a lot!

That being said you can break the cost up in major and minor installments.

For example, the total cost for electrolysis can be over $8K or more depending on how much hair there is to be removed, however you usually pay this in installments over the months and possibly years that you will be doing it.

The same goes for HRT and therapy.  You will spend thousands on both of these and the HRT will be for the rest of your life, but again this is made in installments.

The major installments are FFS, BA, and SRS.  These are all upfront costs and must be paid before surgery.

FFS can run from $12K to $40K depending on who you go to and what you want done.

BA is pretty standard these days and costs about $5K to $8K.

SRS is anywhere from $12K through $20K.  It can be *much* less if you go overseas, but be VERY careful in your selection of doctors if you make that choice.

All told you can expect to spend anywhere from $60K to $90K before all is said and done.

And most if not all of it will come out of your pocket.  Insurance by and large do not cover these surgeries.

That is only the monetary cost.  And in some ways it is the cheaper expense.  A much greater cost can be everything you hold dear in your life.  Your family, your children, your job.  Everything.  If you are not prepared to lose EVERYTHING, run, don't walk to the nearest exit.

I live in Germany. Does anyone know how much it would all cost here? Not everyone is American, you know!

Oh Darn... I was trying to keep the total cost a secret from myself. Now I'm depressed :)

How does someone in there 20's come up with that type of cash? It's amazing to me that
any young TS can afford to do any of that.

I am also from (eastern) Europe... and after i have throughoutly searched the web, i realised that there are at least 1 or 2 SRS surgeons on average, in almoust every European country with prices from 5,000€ to 25,000€ for SRS
but the problem is lack of available information on these surgeons ... the most talked about are those in America and Thailand
Costs vary greatly: depending on both, what you actally need and where will you do it...
Some people need hundereds hours of electrolyses and and up spending over 10.000 (€/$) and others work fine with few laser sessions for well under 1.000€...
In many European countries with social security sistem you can have many things covered, in exceptional cases even SRS
Look around and don't hesitate to travel if you don't find anything afforadable in your area

I'm German too, but I've had all my surgeries abroad.  The U.S, Canada, Spain & Belgium.  As for the cost, Kassandra said it: a lot!

I really wish I knew... Orignoaly I was hoping to have GRS by the time I turned 30... now Im thinking Im going to be between 35 and 40 before I'll reach that point  :(

I started up the slow slope at 24... Im 27 and other than attitude Im not a whole lot further along than when I started....  its a rollercoaster ride.. up and down and up and down... Id really love for it to become a slightly bumpy train ride... but thats probably never going to happen...

*Sigh* ittle take a rich lover or the lotery <which I never play> at this point.... or so it seems.   Just make sure to get your education... I ended up getting messed up on all that... but yeah....

I really hate thinking about this subject...  :(

Me too. I'll be an old man before I can ever take T or have surgery. That is IF I ever can. :(

One thing that we have to keep in mind is that for some people, all these procedures are done in a number of years.  As far as the money goes, it comes from different sources, savings, money which has been set aside for college by parents, inheritance, rich parents, the selling of extra property, etc, etc, etc.  If a young TS works fulltime (one or two jobs) for....let's say...five years and lives at home during that time & saves everything she earns; she will end up saving many thousands by the end of those five years.  Now, perhaps it will not be sufficient to have everything done at once, but IMHO it will be a pretty good start, no?

Quote from: LynnJust make sure to get your education

A wonderful advice indeed.  Without an education, you will be very lucky if you pass the minimum wage mark.

I don't get why people are so focused on SAVING the money,

never heard of credit?

How many people buy 40K SUV in their 20's, countless,
are they worried about not paying for it.

Get a good job, keep your credit up and in a few year you'll be
able to get a loan for SRS, some doctors are even linked to
loan bureaus.

Zillions of people spend tons of money on all sort of crap in their 20's
20K is not that much when you think of it unless you work at a
very low wage. Get an education for sure.

QuoteI don't get why people are so focused on SAVING the money,

Saving is a way of life for some people :)

But I understand what you're saying... if the choice is between a new SUV and SRS, the
choice is pretty clear... but for a 20 something hearing 90K must be overwhelming.
Whereas someone that is in their 40's and even modestly successful it's not that big a deal, cash
in retirement funds or home equity and you're golden.

Also keep in mind, we've just gone though the biggest debt buildup/easy credit time in our history, I think
the future may bring and end to some of the easy money we've had the past 15 years.

QuoteIf a young TS works fulltime (one or two jobs) for....let's say...five years and lives at home during that time & saves everything she earns; she will end up saving many thousands by the end of those five years.  Now, perhaps it will not be

Tink, I think that would be a great start for sure, but it takes a lot of discipline and the ability to live at home...
again that just seems overwhelming. And I bet more often than not it takes till the mid thirties to achieve.

I'm not saying 20 something girls can't or don't do it, I'm just amazed that they can. For most people the
differnce in earning power between 25 and 35 is quite a bit and between 35 and 45 is even bigger.

And you are both right... no education == minimum wage and the prospects of an early SRS fade, and these days a
masters or phd is really needed to complete in many companies.

Not all people in there 20's can get a car loan....
And its also a whole lot easyer to finance a car than a surgery... after all, they can allways repo the car... They cant take away your surgery....

And for some of us, saving is a virtual impossability, when all your money goes into the cost of living... half the time, I cant even afford HRT... and its really not that expensive... When your poor, and start off poor, its very very hard to rise above your station... America is not what it claims to be... Its not a land of opertunity... its a land that thrives on keeping the poor poor, making the middle class closer to poor... and keeping the rich rich...

Untill I find a way out of this catch 22... I dont know if I'll ever make more than enough to barely scrape by... because to make more, I have to get the hell out of here....
