If you were to learn a new spoken language, what would it be?

I was thinking of Vulcan or its close cousin of Romulen.  LOL

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

Well, I'm not convinced that I even know one language yet, and I'm not sure about starting on a second one before I have English figured out. If I had to choose, probably Spanish. I think Spanish is the second most common language in the southern US.

I studied Spanish in high school. Got into an argument with the teacher and he was going to fail me over missing one test. My Guidance Counselor suggested I just drop the class. After that, I took three years of Latin thinking it would improve my vocabulary. It was fun but not of much value in the modern world.

While in the Army, I was stationed in Germany so took classes in German. My girlfriend (later first wife) and I lived off-base with her parents, who spoke no English. Her sister and brother spoke a little English, so we got by. But being immersed in a small farming town where very few English speakers lived, helped me learn the language much more quickly. I lived there for almost seven years, but that was so long ago I doubt I remember much of it.

Japanese. Because I am a bit of a weeb. And I find it incredibly emotional. Albeit seemingly extremely difficult to understand. I suspect a lot of it has to do with the culture. Which is massively removed from western culture, it requires a literal re-wiring of the western brain, lol.

I had a Japanese pen pal once. She would send me origami figures to teach me the names of animals. I also found the way their words are constructed to be interesting. For example:

The word "capitol" is a symbol of a lantern because a lantern marks the house of the ranking person for that area. And you have the word for "east". I forget which is which, but one is "To (toe) and the other is "Kyo". So Tokyo is the "eastern capitol" and Kyoto is the "capitol in the East".

That's it. That is all the Japanese I remember.

German is highly structured and logical, compared to other languages, so I hear.
Japanese I hear is hard to learn.

Chrissy,

Like Jess, and for the same reason, I think it would be Spanish.

I have not had much success learning other languages.  I took one year of Latin in high school.  I tried to learn Korean, which is a very structured, and compared to other Asian languages, modern.  And, I have tried more than once to teach myself Spanish.  All of my attempts of ended in frustration.  I too will stick with English at this point in my life.
