Hi! My name is Markus, I'm just a regular guy. I live in Austria. This year I've fallen in love with a trans-girl and luckily she with me. I signed up here to find more information about transgender people and maybe ask a few questions.

Hallo Markus,

Fellow Austrian here, although I have been living on the other side of the big pond for over 25 years.

It is great to hear that you are one of the few ones who didn't run away upon learning that your love is trans and that you want to learn more about her life experience!

Glad you joined!

Schöne Grüße,

Heidemarie

Hello and welcome. You will find a lot of very helpful, and insightful people information here.

mmmm1234

Thanks for all the nice replies! I didn't expect that so many would already answer me in such a short time.

Since you're (maybe) interested, here is some basic background on me:
I've been in relationships with cis-women (not many) but never really happy. I was never married but I have children. After several difficult years in which I almost lost all my power and strength I thought it might be too early to give up my life and start all over again. I was very lucky and found a very nice trans-girl. Finally, I had someone to share all my feelings, wishes and desires with and she showed understanding. We're planning a new life together, though there are certain difficulties.

Lori Dee

Thank you for sharing, Markus.

I think that, as a community, we are more accepting because of the uncertainties and obstacles that we have faced. That helps us to see others are they truly are and help them as they need it.

I love Austria. While in the military, I often toured Vienna and Salzburg. I found the people to be very friendly and the mountains so beautiful. I spent many summer weekends in Salzburg long ago. I would love to visit again someday.

Nice! The mountains are great, I love to be in the nature, too. I usually find the people not so friendly but maybe they try a little bit harder for tourists. ;-)

I always thought about going away from Austria but despite all the difficulties I came across here I haven't found yet a better place to live.

I hope so, too!  ;D
I'm more used to living alone. That's also one of the reasons of failed relationships: I demanded too much freedom. But with age I'm well aware that I cannot go on like this. But to give up my urge for freedom, I need someone like-minded who complements, supports, respects and understands me. It's somewhat difficult to explain but with cis-women I always felt they don't understand me of what I'm doing. And why I need to do it. Instead, I had to adapt to their wishes which didn't meet my interests. I don't want to generalize here. Maybe there's someone who thinks alike. I don't want to rule that out. But there are other aspects as well...

Oh, and by freedom I do not mean sexual liberty!!
Freedom for me is being in the nature, traveling, exploring, photography, ...

I surely hope that you're right. I'd like to think so.
But as always I have doubts. I don't like uncertainty. And I always like to have a plan for everything. It gives me structure.

What I'm basically looking for are role models. People who made it. Who can look back and say, yes, it was difficult but it was worth it.

I can so relate to this. I am the same way.
That is one of the reasons I am active here. We have so many members here who have "been there, done that" and they are happy to share their experiences, good and bad. If I could bottle up all the wisdom and compassion on these pages, I could buy Earth with enough money left over for a down payment on the Moon.
