When my family seen me as Nikki for the first time was a life changer for me. I still remember it, was into the last month of my 4 month into my transition. Had a farewell night with my family the night before saying goodbye to the unhappy person I was for the last time. The next day, decided to get my nails ,hair and make up done with a new chapter in my life as my true self that was staying. Saved the money up at the time to have all this done. I remember seeing the results, the unhappy me was gone for good. Went home and faced my family, it was nothing but hugs and lots of love. Mom said she is glad to have a daughter in her life that is finally happy that found her true self. Dad told me congrats on my new chapter in my life. My 2 older brothers said I am still in their life as a sister now. Both did get me a pair of hoop earrings. My youngest brother was amazed by the results and said he was glad that I have a better life now as his older sister. Two weeks later after this, my legal name change through and they were were glad Nikki was here to stay

Wow what a happy story.. I am so happy your family has accepted you as a daughter/sister

My family I was not so lucky.. I am an only child, so no siblings. My father disowned me, he was a mans man and could not accept his son was now a going to be a woman... He passed never accepting me. My mother, she came around after his passing. We were estranged by this time.. She reached out and we spoke for quite sometime, until we arranged a meeting.. I remember I was super nervous as this would be the first time she would see me as noleen. At this time, I was almost 2 years into HRT, so the effects were very noticeable. I decided to dress down a bit, I did not want be loud.. even the nail polish was clear with white tips.. I did wear ankle boots with a bit of a heel.. but I did not need to worry, as soon as she saw me, she gave me a hug and greeted me, with hello my girl.. then i knew everything was going to be fine.

Now we are super close and she has told me, she loves having a daughter. She told me, she secretly wished for a girl when she was pregnant with me.

She also found out that day, that I was a smoker, what surprised me, as she also had taken up smoking again during our estrangement. (She smoked as a teenager, then stopped when she met my dad, after his passing the stress of the whole thing drove her back to smoking) Since that day, we have both kicked that habit. But we did bond a lot over a cigarette in the beginning.

Enjoying ride the hormones are giving me... finally becoming the woman I always knew I was

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.
