Do you consider yourself to be open minded?

I strongly believe that most people simply look for information, news articles, even people, that or whom support their viewpoints and avoid for the most part listening to and associating with those with viewpoints that are unsupportive of their own viewpoints and understandings.  This is a prevalent bias.  I am not saying that it is wrong, I am saying it is limiting.

Examples some people would strongly believe:

"I would almost never listen to the progressive MSNBC or The View, they are so slanted like most of the mainstream media is."

"I would never listen to Rush Limbaugh when he was broadcasting his show, he does not support my views, it would be a total waste of my time and your time."

Sometimes listening to others is not only courteous, you can gain some insights. It is harder to pay attention to those that have opposing viewpoints or stances though than those that share you own.

However, there are extremes.  Some people have so evil thoughts why take your time with them, unless maybe you are a psychologist or need to be around them to help?  This may be dangerous situation too for you.

What say you?

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

You always pose such interesting questions, Chrissy!

I think I am. I enjoy learning new things and by listening to others, regardless of their views, I learn. Sometimes I learn ways to explain things that I agree with. Sometimes I learn how others view a particular subject and want to understand why they think that way.

A couple of quotes come to mind:

"No one is free whose mind is not like a door with a double-hinge swinging outward to release their own ideas, and inward to receive the worthy thoughts of others."  ~ Ralph M. Lewis

"The mystic sees in every human being a real brother and sister, a close kin through every human and spiritual association. The interest of our human relatives and those of all humanity are our interest. All are united and constitute one grand experience for the evolution of the soul. The mystical life opens wide the portals of human understanding, sympathy, and human attunement, and through this comes a closer attunement with the spiritual consciousness that pervades all beings. This is the keynote of the power that comes into the very being of every mystic and enables us to wield an influence for good in the lives of others."  ~ H. Spencer Lewis
