What size are the other ones?  If the same, well, welcome to the world of women's clothes.  They can vary in fit.
Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Measure your hips and waist with a cloth tape measure. Then when shopping you can compare sizes by the measurements. The same if shopping online. Very often the company will have a size chart in inches/cm so you can get an idea of what size you need. Over time you will find what fits right and what doesn't.

Ain't it the truth.  Only thing to do is try, try, try (and remember who made them and also which factory (country) they were made in.

Love, Carolina (with the 3 or 4 outfits it took before finding the one that actually fit).

There is little consistency in sizing. One manufacturers L is another 2XL.  Measurements and sizing charts are your friends.  And what one store calls a 5 another says is certainly a 6 or a 4.  Styles and materials can also change fit a lot.  Buy one to test fit then several if you are happy.  Dresses are even crazier.  My closet ranges from 14w, 16, 16T, 18, 20, 22, L, XL, XXL & 3XL that all fit well.  There is are discards a plenty in all the same sizes that fail to fit in some way or another.  There is no substitute for trying stuff on.

Most packaged underwear (Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, etc.) have sizing guidelines on the packaging. If you have never measured yourself, get a tailor's tape and take some measurements at home. Then when you got to the store, just find the package that matches your measurements.

Yes as Bluejaye mentioned it's easy enough to cross reference the sizes.

Many years ago, I used to go into stores, which was hilarious because I am naturally bold and led to some interesting experiences. But these days I order over the web. Women's sizes are incredibly variable as many others have pointed out, but they tend to be reasonably consistent per supplier. We have a big brand in the UK called Marks and Spencer and I am reliably a size 12 in their knickers, but (confession, I am a lingerie junkie) I am a medium in Empreinte and a large in PrimaDonna.

Reading the reviews can be helpful because often there will be a hint about whether the fit is tight or not. In the absence of that, trial and error is the only way and mail ordering a size above and a size below is no sin because you will only need to do it once with most brands. The exception is control underwear, where it is almost always a good idea to try a size too large because you have more to fit in there than the average woman!

Which leads on to the design of panties - they aren't made for men and with high leg ones you will find that things fall out... High waisted ones are usually a better fit for guys and ones with lower cut legs usually work best for day wear. Another tip is that microfibre is the most forgiving material on the planet - always worth a try.

I do not think that things give you much material for the money spent.

More coverage is preferred by me.

Enjoy them though.  If you like them, great!
