Sorry. I am just tired of politicians,  religious zealots and parasitic media.

I should just watch Big Bang Theory reruns for a while.

If eligible to vote in your election, worldwide, then do take the time to vote in your elections, whenever they do occur.  There is much voter apathy.

It is amazing how few voters end up electing local candidates as there often is low voter interest.  It is usually the primary election majority party winners that win in the general election.  The real race seems to be in the primaries for the most part but not every time.

In the USA general election coming up on November 05, I hope there is a high overall turnout of eligible voters.  Many have already voted.  Each vote is important.

I too am tired of this current campaign.

I know exactly what you mean and I have felt that way for quite a while now.

I refuse to support any candidate, even the local dog catcher if they are not prepared to represent everyone they are being elected to represent. I find it absolutely appalling that a presidential candidate and former president would openly attack any part of the population he will be elected to serve.

Our biggest problem is that there is no accountability, so corruption is rampant throughout the entire system. There was a political party a while back that had a solution. The party was aimed at putting representation back into Congress. The party was called GOOOH (Get Out Of Our House).

The plan was to elect local citizens (not lawyers, politicians, or millionaires) at the local level. With a sort of round-robin convention, those with the highest vote count moved up to the next level until there were enough people to fill any vacancies in Congress.

The catch is that every candidate must fill out a 100+-question survey about how they will vote on a given issue. That becomes a binding contract. If they get into office, they are prohibited from voting in any way contrary to that contract. Violation means they are removed from office immediately and the next candidate replaces them.

If a situation arises, such as new information is available that would cause the representative to vote contrary to their contract, they must first go back to the citizens and explain why. If the citizens agree, the rep can change their vote. If the citizens disagree, the candidate is bound to vote according to the will of the people.

Notice that there is no PAC money involved. Votes would no longer bought with donations or gifts. It removes money from the equation.

The party was gaining momentum because this is what people really want. However, the existing parties shut them down because they have a sweet deal, making politicians millionaires with dirty money.

As Murphy's Law states, "Reform always comes from below. The player with four aces never asks for a new deal."

The website is now shut down, but Wikipedia has an article explaining how it worked.

I truly wish that there was a place where being transgender is as acceptable as being left-handed or having red hair.  The current global political environment is brutal enough without us being used for cheap political gain, added advertising revenue for TV trash or to fill the empty seats of a church teaching hate.

Sorry, my blog just turned bitter.

I am looking forward to teaching children.

Politicians and their supporters lie so it is hard to determine the truth.

I question the news media, I wonder if social media is better at telling the truth.

Nah, there is too much bias out there all around, and polarized attitudes with their favorites and agendas.

Chrissy

P.S. Let us go with Emma and drop political discussions for the time being, other than what was expressed that we are tired of politicians!

Sephirah

Quote from: Emma1017 on November 02, 2024, 11:09:26 PMThe mistake that so many make is that they believe America is a lousy empire builder. We really don't want the job. After WW2 we were forced to be the world cop.  We were naive. Every time we stumble we are assailed by more "sophisticated" nations who tragically fumbled the job worse than us.

Every American presidential election is based on domestic issues.  Why? Because we really don't care outside our borders. Why? Because too many Americans died outside our borders and many ask simply "why?".

Trump plays that card well.

When I look at the chaos in governments around the world, I ask the question: "are we the least ugly sister in a shotgun wedding?"

Through VietNam and after a time as a lawyer in the World Court in The Hague, I am tired of being the scape goat for all that world has blamed us for.

Sephira this is absolutely not aimed at you but I am tired of our politics and the rest of the world throwing stones from their fragile glass houses.

We are absolutely not perfect but neither is anyone else. God knows, being transgender, none of us has a safe place to go. I wish I could meet you all there.

This election has made me so bitter and I hate it.

To be fair, Britain was the world cop for hundreds of years before the US even existed. There's a lot more I kind of want to say but probably shouldn't. I'll leave it there. Suffice to say no one thinks the of the US as an empire builder. :)

*hugs* It isn't your politics people have issue with, it's your politicians.

I have had this debate in Europe before. It can get ugly and I never felt it was worth it.

I agree with you Sephirah, I don't like anyone's politicians. I also agree with Chrissy, let's just stay within our friendship and just enjoy the companionship that we share.

Quote from: Emma1017 on October 29, 2024, 04:49:52 PMWas I being checked out as a woman or was I being clocked?

The Atlantic just published an essay about old women being invisible. I'm 68 and am often invisible to younger people. Other old women and old men can often still see me.

When you write "world," who do you include? Can you provide some examples of this blaming?

I guess O&C that I should be grateful for any attention...😁

This what I meant by world:

"The current global political environment is brutal enough without us being used for cheap political gain, added advertising revenue for TV trash or to fill the empty seats of a church teaching hate."

Since I am not publicly out, they are not specific to me but their words seem dominant in the media and I feel saturated by it all.

One of my cis-gal friends aways tells me that a smart girl, young or old, should always be appreciative of a compliment and smiles and says "thank you"

Also of the school of thought, "If you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all."

So I just finished my first day as a substitute teacher. I loved it.

The students were a mix of introverts and extroverts that included their clothes and hair.

It was fun interacting with them, the staff and the teachers.  It was worth the effort to get registered.

Doing it occasionally will keep it unique.  It also feels good working with them as LGBTQ students.

Ah, I thought you were talking about America's role in the world.

As far as garnering attention, being invisible lets me observe unseen.

I just learned that I am eligible for a pension in five years. Hmm, teaching part-time, it can't be much.  Glad I am not doing this for the benefits. ;D

My work pension was much the same and the private one I cashed in would have only paid me £60 a year (about $100?) .
