As an avid Scuba Diver, I used to travel a lot to film different critters and wrecks. I have been to Vanuatu (SS President Coolidge), Bali (Reefs, Mantas), New Zealand (Reefs & Wrecks), Fiji (Reefs and Sharks), Tonga (Humpback Whales) , Dominica (Sperm W#hales), Bonney Upwelling (Blue Whales) Christmas Island (Whale Sharks), Micronesia (dived 30 WW2 wrecks), Phillipines (Reef, fish, sharks), Neptune Islands (Great White Sharks) plus hundreds of locations around Australia from Cairns to Tasmania, to Perth to Exmouth, including hundreds of dives around Wilson's Promontory (Sea Caves and seals).
My transition coincided with a sharp decline in my health, and Covid, so my travel has been restricted to towing my trailer around south eastern Australia. My health has improved to where I can consider international travel again, but two problems confront me. My health record prevents me from getting affordable Travel Insurance, and the dreaded Single Supplement Surcharges which make travel super expensive. I am retired and on fixed income so I have to be prudent. I am also concerned about where I could potentially wind up if, for instance, we had plane trouble en route to Europe or elsewhere, and had to land in a country where being trans is illegal, and can be punishable by death.
I have joined some oldies social groups, and hopefully I can join in group tours where the supplements can be avoided. I would love to return to the USA to see some of my friends, but the prices and political climate would need to change quite a bit!
Hugs,
Allie
