Okay, religious right pundits! Take head of this from the New York Times (emphasis added):

I, for one, would like to point out Ms. Slowey, how cliche that sounds.  Trite even.  I, for one, would think that its 'fashion editors' who have been done to death.

I wear dresses and skirts in the summer and pants in the winter.

From a comfort point of view it really seems more practical.

I think a lot of women have those same thoughts.

I went and read those little links at the bottom about the conservative Christian view on women in pants. Oy  vey. I think my IQ dropped by like, 20 points just reading that stuff.

They all wore robs?  As in robbery?  No wonder there were so many thieves in those days.

The mid-15th century? The houppelande was pretty much unisex, although only men had the option of wearing it short enough to show their ankles.  ;)
