Crowds of people angry about the way President Donald Trump is running the country marched and rallied in scores of American cities Saturday in the biggest day of demonstrations yet by an opposition movement trying to regain its momentum after the shock of the Republican's first weeks in office.

So-called Hands Off! demonstrations were organized for more than 1,200 locations in all 50 states by more than 150 groups including civil rights organizations, labor unions, LBGTQ+ advocates, veterans and elections activists. The rallies appeared peaceful, with no immediate reports of arrests.

Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign advocacy group, criticized the administration's treatment of the LBGTQ+ community at the rally at the National Mall, where Democratic members of Congress also took the stage.

"The attacks that we're seeing, they're not just political. They are personal, y'all," Robinson said. "They're trying to ban our books, they're slashing HIV prevention funding, they're criminalizing our doctors, our teachers, our families and our lives."

"We don't want this America, y'all," Robinson added. "We want the America we deserve, where dignity, safety and freedom belong not to some of us, but to all of us."

Grand Forks ND! I was there! Big turn out

This is the first time I've ever seen old people with walkers joining in.

We are not alone! 

Over 200 people stood strong along the bridge in the cold windy rain as thousands of people drove by, cheering us on. This is a very Red county. Our protest was organized by our local Indivisible group, but it didn't get on the worldwide map. Word of mouth brought out that many people.

Many continued on to the town a half hour away northeast where three kids were detained by ICE. They are legal immigrants working on a farm for years.

Three or four thousand rallied in the city a half hour away southeast.

Every state. Numerous gatherings in each state. Many countries. May this empower us to keep expressing ourselves.

I wish I could attend one.

I don't know how to start a new topic. I'm sure it's a simple process. But, sometimes, simple is beyond my reach. I wish I could have attended some event somewhere that embraced me. So, in this forum, my topic is 'paranoia.' Every time I log into Susan's Place and find it virtually empty, my first thought is, 'darn, I've been unfriended or blocked by thousands of people I'm used to seeing in the corridors.' My second thought is, 'darn, everyone has been deported to El Salvador.' That seems to be the times in which I'm living (social anxiety coupled with a sense of doom). Of course, at the end of the day, I hope I've been unfriended.

Not likely. We have people here from all over the world. Even our Moderators are all in different time zones. So if no one is here that means it's still early so go ahead and put the coffee on (or tea). If it is late, that means that you are last to leave. Remember to shut off the lights before you go.
