Tanya, I agree, and that is the sad point: the press gives these hateful bigots a megaphone.  They are no longer on the Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park, they are in the mainstream media.  The media will sell their souls to sell advertising.

So true. Something I have witnessed is that a piece of misinformation was posted on social media. It went viral. The media picked up on it and ran news stories about it. People were then directed to the original social media, thus fueling the story even further, which the media also covered.

And the whole story was a lie.

When Kemi Badenoch welcomes something... you know it's fundamentally broken.

I mean that's kind of true. It isn't as bad in the UK as it is in the US. Or maybe I just don't pay attention to the kind of media which revels in hate. Probably that. There are different voices out there, they're just harder to hear because it seems like the people in charge of a lot of the media... all pee in one pot, as it were. Hate gets more views than love. It's a fundamental fact. Just have to look at YouTube to see that. A lot of the world is hurting and they just want to see other people hurting more, to make themselves feel better.

One of the big downsides of the human condition.

They probably are. Because the internet, by and large, is full of misanthropes who spend all day online. They just want to find things to hate. It always gets more traction. That's why you see people hating on every videogame, or movie, or book, or whatever. Because the kinds of people who live online are the kinds of people who lap this stuff up. Most people who don't care, or who see the good in the world, are too busy living their lives to thumbs up all the negativity.
