The best laid plans of mice and men...

I have had the Uhaul truck and tow dolly reserved for over a week and received an email confirmation.

Just now, I got a call from Uhaul that they don't have a tow dolly available. (Now you tell me?)
Oh and the 15-ft truck you reserved is not at the location where you want to pick it up. It's at a different location that does not open until 10 am.

He managed to locate an auto transport trailer (flatbed) and will rent it for the same price as the tow dolly... but it is not in Rapid City. It is in Spearfish at the north end of the Black Hills.

So I pick up the truck Monday at 10:00 and leave my Jeep there. Then drive up to Spearfish and pick up the trailer. Drive back down to Rapid City, load the Jeep onto the trailer and then I can go home and start loading the truck around noon or later.

He apologized for the inconvenience and gave me an extra day rental on the truck and trailer at no charge.

This just might work out. Now to inform my helpers that we won't start loading until Monday afternoon.

I'm sorry for the extra hassles, Lori. I hope it all glides as (re)planned now.

Now there will be a very good reason for the change of plan, that is the way the universe works.

Things did work out as all of you have said. My friends helped me get the truck loaded, I got the Jeep loaded, and after getting some sleep, I left at 5:00 am.

At 1:00 pm I crossed the state line into the Promised Land. 😁



Four hours later, I arrived at my new home and it was 98 degrees. Colorado is under a "heat dome" like New England was a short time ago. Forecast for today is 102 and tomorrow is 101.

I better get the truck unloaded before my rocks melt. 🤪

Congratulations, Lori. I've been waiting to hear how it went.

I hope the unloading goes smoothly and that your life in your new home is everything you hoped it could be.

The folks who designed the 'Colorful Colorado' signs have a sense of irony. Although the state is colorful, the signs definitely are not.

It can get hot in Colorado, but the low humidity really helps. Stock up on moisturizer.
