Fun with OPP (Other People's Plants)  ;D

@Jessica_Rose and @Susan_Rose entrusted me to babysit some of their prized possessions while they make their big move. They have some very interesting "chlorophyll babies"!

Since I have never grown any of these before, and couldn't remember everything Jessica told me about them, I turned to world-renowned botanist, Dr. Google, for help in identifying and care tips.

Many of them have the same needs as my Money Tree, so it was easy to group them with my plants. Some require more light, and my limited window space required some minor adjustments, but things are working out fine, and the plants are recovering nicely from the stress of being kidnapped, locked in a trunk, and transported halfway across the country.  ;D

The ones that got stressed out the most are the Amaryllises (Amaryllri?). What is the plural of Amaryllis? Anyway, the Amaryllis, like my Money Tree, shows stress in its leaves. They don't like to sit in water and require bright light. They show stress by drooping leaves instead of being upright when they are happy.

Since they are still recovering, I have them in my bedroom where I can keep an eye on them. I have also instructed my resident elves to leave them alone and go play somewhere else. They are recovering nicely, and one has new growth at the top of the bulb.

The Arrowhead Plant, also called Arrowhead Ivy, is named due to the shape of its leaves. It has beautiful pink veins on the leaves.

One of the pots has two plants in it. In the foreground and left side of the picture is a Jade Plant (also called a Money Tree Plant, but not the same as a Money Tree). It is not a "tree" but a succulent. Above it in the picture is a Holiday Cactus. There are many varieties, but the three most commonly known are the Christmas Cactus, Thanksgiving Cactus, and the Easter Cactus. The way to tell the difference is in the leaf segments. Easter Cactus has very rounded segments. The Christmas Cactus leaves are rounded at the segment joints. This is a Thanksgiving Cactus, which has pointed segments at the joints.

The Bird of Paradise plant is very healthy and shows no signs of stress at all. I think this one is rather tough, since it appears to be into bondage, judging by the chain it has around it. At first, I scolded the elves, but then I realized that they did not put the chain there. (Actually, the chain goes to the hanging pot that it is in.)  ;D

The Purple Heart Plant is another beautiful plant. Named for its purple leaves. It, too, enjoys bright sunlight. It shows its appreciation by turning the leaves purple. Without enough sun, the leaves turn green. So it is in my workroom where the window is unobstructed, and it can get plenty of light. I was going to put it in my bedroom, but the Amaraylliseseses are hogging that window. So the Purple Heart gets its own window in the workroom.

Overall, the plants are doing well. They have one more move to go to their "forever home," where I am certain they will thrive. Their next move will be a short one, just down the road a ways.

Since this is Colorado, I double-checked to ensure that none of these plants are smokable.  ;D

Thanks Lori! Susan will be happy to see that her chlorophyll kids are being well taken care of. I'm glad we'll be able to take the next carload of plants directly to the new house. We have some night-blooming cereus plants that are monsters! They quickly spread to take up all available space. At least they do not have thorns. I think we have about 30 houseplants, and it is in my best interests to make sure they all arrive safely at our new house.

I hope you have a great week Lori!

Made some progress today.

I finally got in contact with the furniture store manager. He was very pleasant. He has the repair parts needed to replace the recline mechanisms on the sofa and the loveseat. But the broken drawer will need to be ordered so that it will match the fabric. That will take about a week to get in, then the repair guy can pick up all the parts at the store and come out to my place and do all of the repairs.

I got some work done on the Chicago Electric rock tumbler rebuild. I was able to drill the ends of the idler roller and reinstall it with cotter pins instead of snap rings. Next will be the same procedure on the drive roller. Once that is done and installed, I can work on remounting the motor. I bought new screws to replace the motor mounts, so that should go fairly easily. (yeah, right.)

Wednesday will be a big delivery day. I have ordered some things that are all scheduled to arrive at the same time. My laser jet printer, a 9-drawer bedroom dresser, and two area rugs (for the living room and bedroom). These laminate floors are cold when it is 103°F outside, so I can only imagine how cold they will be when it is 20°F outside.

Get some warm slippers and socks too.

Lori,

I feel a bit weak and I started coughing this afternoon.  I may have been pushing myself too much and perhaps I have caught a cold.  I stopped working about four hours ago but I already put in a fair day's work and am at home of course.  I took a nice, warm shower and am resting.
I really dislike feeling poorly. I think I will skip supper and get some hot chocolate.

A summertime cold?  Crazy.

Hugs,

Chrissy

It is nice that the furniture will be fixed soon.  I wonder why they did not already order the drawer to match.

I have tons of fleece socks. I wear them like slippers. But in the summer, they can get too hot.

Quote from: ChrissyRyan on Yesterday at 08:19:43 PMA summertime cold?  Crazy.

Very possible. You may have caught a bug from someone at work. A hot shower will help. Drink some hot herbal tea if you have it. It will soothe the cough, warm you up, and help you stay hydrated. Lots of clear fluids will help flush it out of your system. Get plenty of rest.

Take care of yourself. We are not done with you yet.

Quote from: ChrissyRyan on Yesterday at 08:34:29 PMI wonder why they did not already order the drawer to match.

It seems like they were not going to do anything without my pressuring them. It only took three phone calls. That was the third strike before I went down and stood in his office until I got my answers. Fortunately, that wasn't necessary. So now we wait to see what happens.

Get some rest, Sunshine!

Wow you have been making a lot of investments for your place.
Hope they all work out well in this new batch.

My eyes are "watering."  Tear ducts I guess.  Not sneezing though.

I agree, it is a great collection. I can't take credit for them. They belong to @Susan_Rose and @Jessica_Rose. They deserve all the credit. I'm just babysitting.

I only have two: a Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureum), which is nearly impossible to kill, and a Money Tree (Pachira aquatic).  :)

I just looked it up, because I didn't know.

Purple Heart plants can be propagated from cuttings.

Here is an article on that:
