The staff of the new king, I think, meet the new boss, same as the old boss.  After a while I think a lot of this was done with icons like the terracotta army in China.

Though I really like the idea of the Heb Sed.

I can't even begin to think about this.

Yep same here.  dont wanna think 'bout dyin.  if it's gonna happen its gonna happen. But I dont wanna think 'about it.

Back when i was doing airborne search & rescue, I had my funeral planned out as well as a letter written to the family.  When the phone rang at 2AM, we were wheels-up within the hour.  I had to think about it so they wouldn't have to.

Now, when my time comes, I hope I face death with my eyes wide open.

When you have something to live for, like wife, kids and all that, you will have to think this out.

I don't feel like dying anytime soon. However, as much as I love the idea of being part of the family plot in Germany, I don't want to be cremated. As of now, I'd probably want my body buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN... my home regardless of where I go. Maybe in 200 years, okay? Here's hoping.

Hi Chris, well at least I had my go at having kids under my roof, eleven of them to be precise. Nieces, nephews, my own three children, one foster daughter, and the latest was when I had just begun full time.   I had three foster children in my care for two years, that was about six years ago. Goodness, how does time fly.

It tore me up watching those kids leave. I knew that there would not be any more kids under my roof. The idea of spending the rest of my life alone also scared me, I'm not getting younger. Then 6 years ago I met Wing Walker and four years later we got married here in Ontario. She has been a God send for me.

As for when I die, I hope it is in my sleep where my consciousness will only need to pass through the thin grey veil to the next world.  I see me as a girl-child with freckles and fiery red hair flying behind her as she runs across a field to join her friend at the bottom of the hill.  She can feel the adrenaline race through her as she felt that at any moment she would be airborne from the speed she moved at.

At the bottom of the hill she slowed her run to a fast walk then threw her arms around her friend and just continued to hug her friend that she had missed since she had crossed through the thin grey veil. They sat next to a babbling brook and shared many stories that day.

Having that stuff, you get responsibilities that are all but impossible to imagine otherwise.  Without my kids and GF I would do one big summer tour and spend the rest of my time hiking, climbing and skiing in Tahoe.  But my GF made huge sacrifices to be with me, and she asks, in exchange, that I not bug out for 4 months at a time and leave her here alone.  And I feel the responsibility to my kids to pay for their college, because I told them if they made it to a good school, I would pay for it. Damn if they didn't do it.  So, I still work.

And, when I die, I do not want to burden them with that.  I would hope their grief would be enough.  The rest has been taken care of and paid for.  Hell, I even put the songs I wanted for the wake or whatever on a CD.  And the will.  Who gets what.  And some statement of why.  Your young, and I'm old, and in the difference in those years are real estate, insurance policies, personal effects, and other property that needs to be distributed.

I also have a close friend who has keys, passwords and all the rest so that certain items, including my hard drives will be destroyed.

If your not there yet, I'm sure you will be.

For those who want an alternative to cremation, there's always this:

New idea in mortuary science: Dissolving bodies with lye

Is that what it's called? Yeah I guess so. Where ever they take bodies for science, lol. How I see it, when I'm dead, I'll have no need for my body. So make use of it, dont take up MORE land just so it can rot in the ground.

It is why I am an organ doner, as well

Lol, in a certain contex, this route could be seen as the highest form of narcissism.

Easy...find a plain pine box.  Do not embalm me or pump me full of chemicals or make me look like I am not dead.  Do not put me in a concrete vault that will last for eons.  Just place me in my family cemetery.  I don't even need a headstone.  Don't have everyone ogle me and make remarks.  Just put my guitar in my hands and let me go.  I will be so glad when it happens.
