On a few occasions in the past I've stated that I was perfectly happy as a no-op and even if I could have GRS, I wouldn't do it.  I lied.  This was convenient because due to health and financial considerations it wasn't in the cards anyway.  It seems as though my situation is changing!

I saw my transplant hepatologist yesterday for a regular visit.  I'm doing very well and have been for about 3 years placing my operation - barring some catastrophe - a long way out in the future.  He also told me that he was impressed by the way I've changed my life and my success in managing my illness as well as my transition.  As we were finishing I asked him if that "no elective surgeries" rule still applied.  He paused for a moment and said, "If you want to do that, find a surgeon to perform the procedure, have them contact us and we'll see what can be worked out."  You should have seen me smile!

So now I'm in the market for a GRS surgeon.  So here's my ad: M2F seeks surgeon to perform GRS.  Must be in the USA, take Blue Cross, and located close to a major medical center that offers liver transplant services.

Suggestions anyone?

Meltzer maybe. I hear he's pretty good, and near a hospital and he's American.

Taking Blue Cross will be the hardest part.  Congratulations!

Claire, what got you there in the first place ....  :( .... ?

Guess ther are more issues to do with "regular hrt meds" than surgery ?

Just go for it girl .....

P.S. what is "Blue Cross" ?

Blue Cross is a very large American health care plan.

There are many things to consider, Claire, and even though Dr. Meltzer is an excellent surgeon, I'm afraid that he doesn't deal with insurance companies.  Indeed, he has this information posted on his website:

QuoteQ. Do you accept insurance?

This question has been coming up a lot more with the changing coverage provided by health insurance companies. Dr. Meltzer does not participate with any health insurance companies. Our office will not be in your network but Greenbaum may be and it may be listed under Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn. Some patients have been able to get portions of there surgeries covered by insurance but this is something that you will need to discuss with your insurance and research on you own. We are very happy to help you with insurance questions and concerns but it is a very complex situation and it is best that you call the office with any further questions.

You may find this thread helpful in some other ways though...
