So, Ive been a Tomboy ever since I was four and have never felt like a girl, dressed in a dress or wore makeup. Im 28 now and alot of ppl think I am a guy, which is ok by me. What lets me down most is my voice, it is high pitched like a girls and as soon as I start talking ppl ask whether I am a guy or a girl. What can I do to deepen my voice? I know T will do it but dont know if im ready to take that yet.

What else is avaliable?

If I am interested in taking T, how do I bring that up with a doctor? Do I need to see a speciliast or just a regular gp?

I can't really help with the voice thing, but welcome aboard!

You'll probably want to find a good therapist who is good with gender issues in your area.  He/she will be invaluable as far as helping you sort things out.  Usually an endocrinologist prescribes T.

I'm not on T yet.

QuoteWhat can I do to deepen my voice?

Try training your voice in private.  When you are home alone or in the car, pop in a CD by a male singer with a voice slightly lower than yours and sing along and try to imitate his voice to stretch your vocal cords.  As you come closer to matching his pitch, pick a deeper voiced male singer and repeat.  With lots of practice, you can have a halfway decent male voice.  Just be sure not to get overzealous in your practicing, otherwise you may find yourself losing your voice for a bit (kind of like after you shout too much at a sporting event).

If you smoke ciggarettes it will lower your voice. I smoked for years but I recently quit because I started T. As far as a doc. goes, I would recomend finding a gender specialist before talking to a gp. I'm not sure if therapy is required pre-transition where you live, but it isn't where I'm from. However, talking to a specialist can really help with any questions you may have.

Good luck!
