Tonight was the first night I went to a support group.  I told my parents I was working late, when really I just needed an excuse for the long drive back home.  On that extra long drive back home, some jerk sideswiped my car!  :icon_anger: :icon_anger: :icon_anger:

Then, worse, he just keeps driving, swerving all over the highway.  My car was still driving...and I didn't get swerved in front of the big truck I was trying to pass in the first place...So I followed him and called 911, reported his plate, and met a state cop off the next exit.
They pulled him over 3 miles later, arrested him, and impounded his car.  No license, 4 different ids with 4 different names and addresses, no registration, no insurance... UGH!!! Now I have to deal with the insurance people and hope they can find this guy and collect from him. :eusa_wall: :eusa_wall: :eusa_wall:

My car was adorable and now it's all scratched up. :'(  I should probably shut up and be happy there are only scuffs and scratches, but my car is like the only thing that I own that's worth something, and it meant a lot to me at the time to have been able to get it... BLAH

They can find him, he's sitting in jail.
With that many I.D's they will take him in just to be sure of who he is. Not to mention he was probably drunk. Getting him or his insurance to pay, that will be the problem.

I fear this happening with my car as well, they drive terrible here.

Vivian  I'm Very happy that you are in one piece with no major damage to yourself. and its also great that this "driver" is arrested.

the damage to you car ... well don't sweat the small stuff.  It could have been you

Hi Vivian45, Wing Walker, my mate, lived in the US and she was just telling me that most states have an uninsured motorist fund that might help you.  Ask your insurance agent.  It's pretty likely that a portion of your auto insurance premium goes into the uninsured motorist fund.

Your insurer should pay for repairs to your car under this fund.  In exchange, you agree to not sue the person who hit you, but to leave the lawsuits to the insurer and its lawyers.

Get on the phone right away and ask your insurance agent about uninsured motorist coverage.  If that doesn't work, ask for a referal to a lawyer and file suit.  Most lawyers don't charge for the initial consultation.

Quoteuninsured motorist fund

Is something you pay for when you get insurance. Most people have more than just liability insurance especially if you are making auto payments.

Glad you are OK.  Really!  I've had that happen to me, too, but couldn't find the jerk.  If they have his car, just offer to take the car in lieu of judgment against him.  Sell it and make yours even more adorable than it has ever been!

Im glad your ok....it is crazy out there. I worry all the time about something like that happening. I drive a little old MG....very small and little protection. I am always watching around me just so I could try to avoid a situation like that....Thats what the car body if for, to protect you and it worked....Glad your OK and your car can be fixed so no biggie...

Thank goodness you're all right -- that's really the most important thing!

Dealing with insurance should be very easy -- you just call them and tell them what happened. Okay, they'll probably call you back and have you explain it again. But it's really no big deal; or rather, if they make it a big deal then you should dump them as soon as this claim is settled. Their job is to make things easy for you, and that's almost certainly what they will do.

I hope this all turns out well. Many blessings.

Thanks everyone!  I was able to look at it more closely in the light, I'm much less worried about how my car looks now...I was too upset to closely look at it last night, well and it was dark.

It really is just scratches and scuffs, no dents at all, and I couldn't even see the scratches in the rain when I was walking through the parking lot after work today.  It kind of hit me around noon today too just how lucky I was, my dad pointed out that the back corner where he hit me is where cops hit cars to spin them out and stop them.  I so very very easily could have ended up sideways in front of that truck.

And now that I really think about it, I'm glad they caught him and all, but chasing him was probably a very STUPID and dangerous move...
