Good reason to be wary of marriage

http://socialistworker.org/2008/05/28/wary-of-marriage

"WHILE I agree with the overarching analysis of Sherry Wolf's article "Guess who opposes gay marriage?" that "the 1,000-plus rights at stake in marriage laws and the ideological blow to sexually repressive ideas and laws are very real to most [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (and queer)] LGBT[Q] people" makes the struggle for gay marriage rights absolutely necessary--both because it is just and because it is a part of the larger oppressive capitalist system--I think that it is simultaneously important to respect people's wariness around the notion of marriage."

You know why divorces cost so much? Because they are worth it!

Marriage is a Roach Motel...You can get in but you can't get out!   :D

The two best days of the marriage, they day it happens, and the day it ends.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

Marriage is like a frat party. Looks like a lot of fun from the outside, but you regret it deeply once you enter it.

Sounds like some are rather much against getting married. Can't imagine why, 48% of the people seem to be happy with it for up to five years!

I'll be married for 16 years this year.  We'll be together for the rest of our lives. It truly can be a wonderful thing.  I still submit that government should get out of th marriage business.  Things that are considered holy and sacred are best left to a person's personal choices and faith.

All the gov should be worried about is if you are part of a household or not for legal necessities.

I agree with you Cindi, I really think the government should step out as far as money goes. I don't think there should be a tax break or any other advantage as far as the money goes, especially social security. I do like being married and yes, I have had my complaints, but I would rather have my dear friend with me, all the way to the end. I want to be able to know that she will be able to help in a crisis matter and I for her. We have been married for over 38 years and have known each other over 40.
