Just a little.

So I'm going to the LGBT prom thing here, and my mom knows about it and everything. She even offered to let me wear her old party dress she wore when she was my age.

But she is also saying she and dad are not ready to "see me in a dress"

I am irked and confused, but never the less I told her I would get dressed at Stacey's (my sort-of date) house.


All I gotta say is... Uhm, wtf? I'm not complaining or anything, it just confuses me...

i think its like parents wanting grandchildren (letting you wear her dress) but not wanting their kids to be bumping uglies (not wanting to see you in a dress).

Better some than none.

Just a thought Gracie but it sounds like your Mom could trying to help you a little and still trying to keep peace in the family with your Dad. I think you should take her up on the offer if you like the dress and see where all this goes. Good luck Sweetie.

At least your mom actually helps with clothes somewhat. Mine doesn't at all.

Gracie I'm sure this will all change in time. When I first told my wife, she said she understood, however she said that she didn't want my walking around in female clothes when she was around. Now it's not only OK, but their are times when she buys my the clothes.
I'm sure, it was a shock when you first told them, and it just takes longer for some to accept it.
As Wendy said it does sound like your Mom is trying to keep peace with your Dad.
Just be patient, I'm sure they will come around.

WOW Claire, your mom sounds wonderful, just that it might be taking her a bit of time to accept and grieve the loss of her "son" .....

Think she's already accepted you as a daughter, and your dad is OK too ?

Go with the offer of the dress .... try it on and show off how good you look in it to your folks !

I think they'll be really impressed and it will help them see you as the girl you are.

Nowadays when I'm back home for an "occassion" I usually parade at least three costumes before my mom and step-dad, and respect their opinion. 

My mum is saying I need to buy some new skirts and a summer dress for our overlapping summer holidays with friends and family in Hungary !  Guess she's tired of seeing me in denims, cropped jeans, and capris ....

Yes, go for it and understand that your folks need time to ajust and accept ....
