Anyone catch the 10:00 PM episode of "Secret Lives of Women" on We! last Tuesday?  I taped this episode last night and its very interesting.  They had a pre-op MtF TS from Kentucky on there who works as a ticket clerk for one of the major airlines.  It shows her transformation from pre-op TS to post-op TS.  She had her reassignment surgery done in Tailand.  It was very interesting how they transformed her and the show documented how her family supported her decision to transform into a woman.  Definitely worth watching if you ever get the chance.

I saw the show a few months ago, & I think WE! should have had more than one transsexual represented.  On other episodes of "Secret Lives of Women" they have several different examples of "shopoholics", "late in life lesbians" and so forth.  Anybody who watches that show might think that 's what all transsexuals are like.

If the woman on the show is happy then I'm happy for her, but I'm nothing like her.  I approached my transition, both physically and mentally, in a completely different way.  If I remember correctly, her main message was that she always been a woman trapped in a man's body.  That statement annoys me.  I don't think she'd lived as a woman at all before surgery, other than occassional dressing.  When she arrived in Thailand and met with the doctor for her consultation she asked if she could keep her testicles as a souvenir.  That's when I changed the channel.  I mean come on!!  Even the doctor gave her a weird look at that request!!

I realize everybody goes about their transition differently, and I think everybody SHOULD go about it the best way for THEM, but this woman was so far from any transsexuals I've met online and in person that I think the show mis-represents the community as a whole.

Amy,

I could not agree with you more.  I too think they should have had more than one transsexual on there too.  I think all transsexuals have their own ways they live and present themselves and they are not all the same by any means.  I think the show could have been better had they had the stories of three or four transsexuals instead of just one.  I think having more transsexuals sharing their stories would have been much more beneficial to the transgender community.  Good point!   ;)
