Problems Downloading the new Mac OS X 10.5.3 Upgrade

anyone having problems downloading or installing Mac OS X 10.5.3 are probably having difficulties because of a router glitch.

NetGear routers for some reason, are preventing portions of the update to come through, resulting in a non-functioning download package.

to work around, disconnect the router, and just plug your ethernet right into the cable modem.

if you already tried upgrading through "Software Update", and it failed, you'll need to find the corrupted download package in the Library, and delete it first.

to be on the safe side, go to the Apple site and download the dmg file, rather than using "Software Update"  www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/

once it's installed, you can reconnect the router. (most other Apple downloads do not have this issue, and will load properly through the router.)

ps.
the Mac OS X 10.5.4 update loaded straight through the router...

It should have been a forced resignation (him and Blamer) over the joke they call Vista.  :P

I have a friend who says the VISTA log on screen should be an ad for Apple.

But Bill had planned this before the VISTA meltdown.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

To add insult to injury they are stopping the sale of Windows XPPRO tomorrow. Its the last day. They are getting rid of their cash cow and forcing Vista. I'm afraid all that its going to do is drive the copies of XPPRO up to 1000.00 on Ebay and stuff.

Who knows..I don't think stopping XP PRO sales is going to force people to go to Vista. It will force them to Apple and Linux though.

I don't own any MSFT stock..but if I did, I would sell it. Once Appl stops dropping it would be a good buy...as long as Steve Jobs stays healthy.

Apple could take over the world in a matter of weeks if they allowed Mac OSX to run on anything. It already does if you research it.

It will not be long before Windows 7 is out, that is expected to be better. Originally they stated Vista would not be released until it was ready, but after 2 years, they had to scrap 90% of it and start over. After a few more years, they just wanted it done so they can concentrate on Windows 7. Vista was barely out the door when they started promoting Windows 7, not the best way to promote your latest and greatest. Scrapping XP is the only way to force people to switch to Vista.

Vista can run decently, but no company is doing it right, they keep selling cheap laptops with it. Laptops that are barely qualified to run XP. If you want to know how to do it PM me.

By the way, XP Home will still be available, the new ultramobile laptops use it (Asus EEEpc), and Microsoft has nothing else that will work. Those being the new trend, they sort of left themselves hanging, they have been forced to keep XP Home or surrender to Linux.

Sorta glad Bill is gone, but the powerhouse remains. x_x I used Windows all my life, and I am a loyal user to it still, even though the majority of the tasks I do daily are handled through my Macbook Pro. It's just handled differently than Mac OS(OS X) is, I feel bad for the operating system.
