Transsexual refused army entry for 'total lack of male genitalia'

28 year old Aitor GR, a transexual from a small village in Jaén province, has had his application to join the Spanish armed forces turned down after doctors discovered he had neither penis nor testicles during a routine medical last February.

According to a report in today's El Mundo, doctors justified their decision citing Resolution 542/3802/2007 of the Armed Forces Exclusion Code, which also covers illnesses such as incontinence, psychosis and other forms of mental illness, malign tumours, epilepsy and infectious diseases.

Aitor, who had his female breasts removed towards the end of last year, is on the waiting list for a full male genitalia transplant.

I would imagine that they would not accept a person in the services because his little toe was not there either, even if he hadn't been born with one.
