Your dollars for Happy Meals and Big Macs could end up paying for sex-change operations of McDonald's employees if the home of the Golden Arches continues its promotion of homosexuality, according to a pro-family group that has joined an expanding boycott of the fast-food restaurants and its Ronald McDonald's mascot.

I was going to quote the parts of the article that I thought were totally ludicrous, but then I realized I would have to quote the whole thing. It's really frightening to see the trail of "logic" they're using to scare people into going along with this. Actually, the whole site is completely scary.   :(

For a really excellent critique of this sort of virulence try this post. Read the column at Pam's but be sure to click on the link to Dr. Gushee's essay as well. I think you'll find it very positive even though it's from a Christian, Baptist POV.

If people are reading and paying attention to folks like Dr. Gushee perhaps some very real dialogue and acceptance can begin. His basic point being: we should do our own laundry and gather some learning before wholesalely dismissing and demeaning others rather than tending to ourselves. It's quite excellent, and tends to, I expect, be more in the way of what most of the Christians here have been saying.

Certainly worth the read.

I was just reading that site...and this one with conservative 'humor' t-shirts http://www.thoseshirts.com/tshirts.html
and it reminded me why everyone this side of the pond thinks of america as full of insane humourless nutjobs. I forgot that most people here only see that stuff and not the normal people. The type I see here on a transgender website  :D

Dr. Gushee's comments do inspire hope. I suppose part of the problem is that it's the conservative nutjobs who are the most vocal, and voices like his are silenced.

Yeah, I'd like to think most of us aren't that way. Spread the good word about us over there, okay?   ;)

I'll try, there's a big anti american swing in britain right now. You've been blamed for getingt us in a nasty war we're  bogged down with and most of the populace didn't want it in the first place.

hey, i'll swap all the chips, half the ale, the royal family and some 800 year old farmhouses for some of that old roots blues - a little bit of new orleans swamp jazz, kurt vonnegut, the princess bride book and casablanca

Does anybody see the irony of the inline box ad halfway down the page:

QuotePlagued by man boobs
and excess belly fat?

At least, that ad is there when I surf to the page...

princess bride was only improved by said snarky comments, which makes it a one-of-a-kind collector's edition.

Ummm, which sort of "one-of-a-kind," Tasha, and what sort of "collector?" >:D
