Good grief!

Why is it so expensive? You can get home laser hair removal systems in the UK for a fifth of that price. What's so special about that one that it costs a thousand dollars? That seems like an awful lot of money.

But... what about these?

If they ship to the US then you could get the basic one for $200 or the scanning laser for $400. Aren't they the same thing?

Would you actually treat your own face with a laser?  Aren't you afraid of scarring?  I mean, when I had it done ($150 per session - I negotiated) part of the release I signed warned about that.  How would you see what you are doing?  If I had body hair, maybe, but no where sensitive.

I think I'll wait and let someone else be the guinea pig.  If they do work, in time the price will come down.  Then get a couple of friends to go in together on one and share it  After all, how often do you expect to have to use the thing?

The info is rather scant.  If it is a multilaser, like the professional models, then it would explain the extra money.  I hear the $200 and $400 single lasers are hard to use and take a lot of time.  If the extra money is just for the FDA aproval, that sucks.

I don't buy it.  I dont think you could get a laser powerful enough to do the job right without a license.  Think of all the lawsuits that a proffesional strength laser would bring about if made available to the general public.  It looks like a scam to me.

but i think in the realm of product liability torts, its fairly innocuous.

So were cups of coffee and BIC lighters until someone got hurt with one.  I love the warning on the BIC in particular, that it can catch things on fire.

I bought a new sawzall a couple of months ago and the product liability tag was almost as long as the instruction manual and covered everything short of 'the Sawzall was not designed to help you break out of jail' which I expect on the next edition as soon as I use it for that. 

Thinking as a tort lawyer, as soon as someone is blinded by it - and they will be, I'm going to sue the manufacturer for making it unsafe, and the distributor for not checking on the requirements for ownership and certificates of use.

And any laser, no matter how small, even the pointer ones, have the ability to blind people.

Oh god, you did that too?  Mine did the "yao yao yao' thing for about half and hour, then it got quite, but after a month it started to smell so I had to toss it out.

Getting back to the topic...

I actually thought laser hurts more than electrolysis.  You hear and smell the hair sizzle.  The burning sensation is from any surface hair as well as the hair folicles being fried.  Imagine someone running a light saber across your face.

On the other hand, the entire face was done during the course of the hour appointment.

For right now, I think I will stay with a professional handling the instrument.

Wow, after reading the "FAQ" at lucypeters.com I have 3 words: WHAT A JOKE

Please, people, don't fall for that garbage.  They said NOTHING remotely scientific -- or convincing to ape species or greater -- to justify that they're worth the "consultation".  I don't know anything about their consultations, but I'll bet it's high pressure sales, lots of vague answers, and I'm sure just for us TG/TS types, "we have lots of experience with ->-bleeped-<-s"    Stick with the stuff that hurts.
