Conventional wisdom pegs Unitarian Universalists as a fuzzy lot: Our
refusal to adhere to any dogma must mean we're without strong
convictions; our natural open-mindedness is derided as being soft in
the head; our persistent insistence on liberal values is chalked up as
evidence of hearts too tender to set any boundaries. In sum, it
creates a public image of a bunch of mushy intellectuals lacking
cohesion, backbone, focus or much sense of purpose.
