The individual, who was born a man, has been taking female hormones for several years but is still listed as a male on his driver's license.

Great, now they have an object lesson to publicise all over!  *sarcasm* certainly this rube makes just so much sense: "Because he's a man, he don't need to be using no woman's bathroom," one bus customer said. "What if we came in and seen he's standing up instead of sitting down." What if we came in and "he" was peeing and wiping? O, my!! */sarcasm*

So, pretty soon ID checks for the public loo. How quaint.

Ya know, I think there might be some valid concern that gender will start being policed in some locales!

If you see "him" standing then tell "him" to close the stall door!

Seriously, the bathroom police need to go unless someone is actively carrying out a crime.

Don't shoot the messenger (me) but actually under Florida law, entering the bathroom of the opposite sex is considered trespassing even on public property.  So if a complaint was filed by someone at the bus station, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Officers wouldn't have had much choice if the person's DL said M.  I witnessed the exact same thing about 30 years ago at the Jacksonville Airport only at that time, instead of a citation, it resulted in a trip to the crossbar hotel.

What you have to take into consideration here is that while most areas of the country have entered the 21st century, attitude wise Jacksonville is stuck somewhere around 1958.  I mean this is a city where the First Baptist Church and it's 28,000 members are partially responsible for the Southern Baptist Convention becoming the far right wing, homophobic, hate group that it has become.
