Is it just me, or have you also noticed that there are many more tall people amongst us m2f girls than amongst men?

I know of lots of t'girls who are between 6ft and 6.5ft, but men seem to be shorter on average..  the last guy i had a 'date' with was 5ft 5.. that's ALOT shorter than me!!

Hi Jasmine,

I really haven't noticed the guys getting any shorter, in the UK it seems
to be the opposite...(hey girls....its height we'e talking about here) :icon_redface:

...but us taller girls can get a little worried about about scaring off the shorter
guys and girlfreinds, so we seem to end up talking about it a lot here...

Yes I know what you mean, I think you're right about being self-conscious of our height. Though for me, living as a boy I used to hate being tall, now I kind of like it. Strange huh?

I just get sick of having to buy flat shoes so that I don't stand out too much in public.

What I would give to be 6" shorter and slip into a modest pair of 3" heels...sigh!...

Yes, but I have an online friend who is 6 ft 5 and she wants to get heels (it's hard in her shoe size) and another who is 6 or more ft and she wears heels. I beleive it's the gender disphoria that is our problem disguised as simply height. Tall bio girls are all over the place and they can blend in quite well.

In my other post https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,40134.msg264354.html#msg264354 there is a lady, bev, who has two cousins taller than me, i'm somewhere between 6ft 2 and 6ft 3, and there are others on there too.
Sportswomen are often very tall.. men still think they're very sexy!

I'm 5-11 ...I was 6 ft before, and I'm glad I dont have to say I'm 6 ft tall as a woman. Good riddance, inch. But I find that I like being tall. For one thing, men literally can't talk down to me, which helps at work. And as a Lesbian, I don't want to date them, so I couldn't care less on that score, though I have discovered that there are men who have a thing for tall women.

But when it comes to being with other women, I don't like it so much. In fact, if I could just run myself through the dryer a few times and generally shrink about 15%, I'd be delighted about it. And then I could buy all those clothes and shoes I have to search for in my size, as things are.

I'm 5' 9", and I'm very self conscious about my height. It might be because I'm from Louisiana -- the land of the small people.

I have to accept that a lot of my hang-up is down to my confidence, but like Je says, averages will vary from region to region. If I looked great, then I guess I would have less of a problem standing out, but I just need to "blend" at the moment.

I regularly study the people around me when I go out shopping in the UK, and have concluded the following:

Up to about 6ft 2" including heels doesn't attract too much attention in itself for an average body shape.
The majority of GG's that are around 6ft tall wear flat shoes here.
Slim taller girls of around 6ft including heels look like they are 6ft 4in until you stand close to them.
The average doorway in a UK house is 6ft 7in.
Guys of 6ft 4in still get noticed here.
I am about 6ft 1in these days.

OMG.. I've just read this back, and does it sound paranoid or what?

...yep...it's paranoid!...but then that's me at the moment! ::)

I love being tall and am just shy of 6' and like to wear chunky 2" heels. Around here I do stand out a bit but I have noticed a lot of high school gals who are just as tall and some even taller than I am.

I am 6'2", which I always loved as a man - mostly because I was taller than my brothers, who had always teased me growing up. But, now that I'm a woman, I hate being that tall. I'd love to be about 5-6" shorter.

However, girls seem to be getter taller these days. My sis-in-law is the same height, shoe size, shoulder width, everything, as I am. Does she get looks when she's out? You bet!! Does she wear heels? Nope - but only because she dresses casual like all the time!

It's been difficult being this tall and trying to blend - but once you realize that the looks are due to your height, and not them clocking you, it's a bit easier. I actually wear 2" heels fairly regularly now, with a big smile and swinging hips. Do I get looks? Yup! Do I get smiles from the boys? Yup. Yeah, it's still a bit unnerving sometimes, and difficult to remove the GID from the stares, but it can be done.

Wear the heels with pride, my tall sisters! Become a fashion statement!

Hmmm, well I've met around a dozen+ TSs at this point, and I was WAY taller (at 6'2") than all but one of them.

Being tall CAN be fun, as it always attracts attention... especially from guys. Like Rebecca says, once you realize they're just staring at a tall girl and not reading you, it's actually kinda amusing. It's ironic that as a guy I couldn't intimidate a flea. As a tall girl though, I seem to make guys seriously uncomfortable.

Thing is, there's no way to turn it off when you just feel more like blending into the crowd. It's fun, but I wish it had a PAUSE button or something.

Although I'm not tall by any definition, I have a ton of friends who are 6' + and love wearing heels. Most of them are GG. For the most part they don't care because they know their height exaggerates their bodies and makes them look like super models...quite literally for one in particular. In answer to the topic's original question, at least here in the US people on average are actually shrinking. I'm sure if you google search height average by country you can find more specific information. Not sure where you are from topic starter so I can just help you find the info  :)

This has been discussed at length here,
but there is nowhere in the US or elsewhere, where its
common to be a 6 foot tall women, the closest
would be the netherland, and even there its pretty far.
And it has nothing to do with age, the 20's girl is barely taller than
people in the 40's on average.

Height is related to nutrition while growing up, which explains
why people born in the 30's are shorter on average.
If the nutrition is perfect, then its genetics, and
that takes quite a while to change (thousands of years), unless
mixing population pools (say immigration from mexico dragging
the US average down).

There was a poll here and the mtf on this site seems to be exactly
the statistical average height for a man (about 5 foot nine to 5 foot 10).

I had a real complex about my height for quite a while. I'm not super tall, but at 1m84, I'm somewhat above the female average (and even worse, I live in France where I'm somewhat above the average for a giant!!! :) ) For a long time, I would only wear flats and I'd try to blend in to the height of the rest of the room, but then a sweet old gentleman watching me trying shoes on in a shoe shop started talking to me about what he used to do as a job.

This guy was the character who sorted the shoes out for a lot of Paris fashion shows and he was almost angry with me for not going with proper heels. His comment was: "Those heels are made for women your height... A woman of average height would look ridiculous in them!". So, I walked out of that shop with a goooooooooooorgeous pair of Gold Tods with a 12cm heel and a pair of Stuart Weitzmanns with a 15cm heel. Ever since that day, I've worn more and more heels and been more and more proud of my height.

Now, the only problem is to find a nice sexy man or a cute woman who doesn't mind me towering above them! I'm not going back to flats whatever! :)

Human height around the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height

As I talked in anther thread, I am about 6 feet (183 cm), and very tall as both men and women in this country at my age. Average height of young men and women greatly increased during the past 20 years. It is not difficult to see young women who are as tall as me. But a problem is balance in shape. Most tall and young women I have observed lack the body balance, and some body parts are too fat or short. People used to comment that my body is well balanced despite my height. The reason I speculate is that I have less fat and more muscle than typical women. Neverthelss, a week ago, I saw a well balanced young woman who is nearly as tall as me (about 178 cm), but she wore trousers and could not compare her leg lines with mine.

Wearing heels despite my height is thrilling and exciting. I can attract nearly all of public attention by wearing heels, which I sometimes fear, but frankly nowadays I can enjoy if I wish. A pair of 3-inch heels would be enough to emphasize my leg lines, but I also enjoy wearing 4-inches, which makes me very uncomfortable after waling for > 30 mins. After seeing me wearing 4-inch heels, most GG shout like "Even I do not have such high heels. How can you manage to wear it to walk?" I can walk faster than most GG while wearing heels.

Just do it.

I see 6'+ GG women daily here in MN and in WI. I seem to see more and more of them lately. Maybe I wasn't noticing before. Maybe it is a midwest thing, you know being cornfed and all! ::)

It's a Scandinavian thing.  We just grow 'em big around here.  As I wander around the Twin Cities I'm taller than 75% of the women here, including the little Asian girls, but that means 25% are taller than I am.  I also think tall girls are hot.

At 5'9", I've found I'm actually below average in height compared with the other women I work with.

Being 5'10", I am obviously on the edge of "too" tall. Just depends where I am going; store or shoppong, ballerina flats are better and oh so cute!!

Dinner and dancing, 3" heels are a must
