I got a call a few days ago from my urologist, and my Orchiectomy is scheduled for September 30th! 

I called my dad a few minutes ago, and told him that the date was set, and to ask if he could take the day off from work to be there for me.  He sounded concerned, mostly because it'll be in the beginning of the semester.  I told him it'd be alright and that I'd be able to make up the school work while I was home recovering.  But also, I know he's still trying to take all of this in and accept it, which he's done a wonderful job of so far.  I'm really lucky and grateful that I have a parent (at least one) who understands.  Mom still doesn't know I'm having the surgery, and I'm keeping it that way because she just doesn't understand at all.  I'm not sure if she ever will.

Needless to say, I'm pretty anxious, nervous, and I have more than one butterfly in my stomach about the operation.  I have a ticker in my signature, and as I get closer to the day I'd ask you to keep me in your thoughts and prayers.  I'll keep you all updated post-op too.

It took me a long time to get to this point, but I'm really nervous and anxious, like when you want and need something really badly but you're scared as hell to go through with it.  Yeah, I'm there.  I really hope I don't make myself sick as I get closer to the operation, I've been known to worry about things and make myself sick over them.  Especially anything medical. *sigh*

I have a few weeks, so I'll need to work on this anxiety with my counselor.  I can't worry and make myself sick and then not be able to have the procedure done, now can I? 

I've had this dull headache on and off over the last few days...I hope it goes away.

The headache is from the stress of worry.  Relax and just enjoy.  It is a step you have wanted.  I realize that it is scary.  But you will be alright and having your Dad there is a great thing to have.

I am thinking the same thing, need to talk to my doctor.

I was just chatting with Zythyra, and explained that I have serious anxiety issues when it comes to these kinds of things, anything medical.  Needles freak me out like nothing else.  I get nervous just going to the doctor's office for the first time, and the second time, until I become familiar with going there.  I used to not be able to get my blood drawn without freaking out.  I should probably be on medication for anxiety...

But I will try to relax.  I am trying, believe me.

I had my orchi last December and I can tell you it went quite well - in and out on the same day, minor discomfort (off the pain pills after the 2nd day) and the changes to how I felt were just wonderful.  Weaning off of the spiro afterwards provided me with a lot more energy in life - it also stopped the kidney damage that the spiro was causing.

It's really not a major procedure and I'm sure you'll be well.  Good luck!

Thanks Emelye, I'm hoping that my fears are nothing and it'll all go well.  My endo said post-op I can stop taking spiro and go down on my dosage for estradiol.  I should probably talk to my general doctor about getting some anxiety medication.  I know it'll be ok, many people have said that, but it's still really scary for me.  This stupid headache...*sigh*

I'll be ok, I just need to distract myself.  With school starting next week, that'll help.

Ya might wanna check on the anti-anxiety meds before you go with them in your system. They may cause a problem with the anaesthesia they plan to use. Be on the safe side.

Woohoo!  Congrats   I am literally on day 2 of recovery myself and I have to say that it was nothing for me to stress out about.  I was actually humming the entire time   You will be fine!

Thanks Nichole, I wouldn't go on any new meds this close to surgery, I'll have to look into it after the procedure.

I had to leave work early this afternoon and called in sick to my second job for this evening.  I feel like crap still, this headache won't go away and my vision got blurry at one point.  I'm laying in bed as I type this, I'm dizzy and feel like I'm going to vomit.  I really don't want the stress of this to kill me, ugh anyone have any suggestions?  I need a distraction.

I've been thorugh different type of orchidetomy for different reasosn (a tumor)
I had inguinal unilateral orchidectomy under general anesthesia. I was also very anxious,
nervous etc. Anyway the surgery itself wasn't big deal. For me the worst part was wakening
from general anestehsia, and not beeing able to pee, and beeing hungry and thirsty and too hot.
As for the pain, in my case it was really minimal, more discomfort... I've gone without any painkillers.

Are you prone to migraines?  It sounds like you might be having the beginnings of one.

Contacting your doctor would be a good thing.  They can be killer.  My ex use to get them and she was down for days.

Yes, I'm prone to migraines sometimes, and I think this is one.  If I'm not better by Monday I'm going to call my general doctor (I'm sure he's closed by now).  Since my vision went a little blurry earlier I think I should get my eyes looked at too.  *sigh* This better not set back my surgery...

I'm all right, my migraine finally went away earlier this evening, but it took a few hours of sleep.  I think I'm just overworked with two jobs and not getting enough sleep, plus stressed out way too much over everything.

I have some questions for you ladies who have had an Orchi before.

1.) Did you need to stop HRT prior to your operation, and if so, how soon before? 1 week? 2? More?

2.) I've heard that a weight gain of 10-15lbs is possible after the procedure.  Did any of you experience this?

3.) If you had any prior to the op, did facial hair diminish at all, (become thin and white) Or was there no effect on facial hair post-op?

4.) What kind of health concerns do you face now post-op?  Aside from Osteoporosis (which can be handled by remaining on estrogen), have you had any problems arise because of your operation?

Jenn, didn't have an orch, but just a word about remaining on hrt. You will find that most endos/GPs etc will want to lower your dosage of estrogen to a point that is post-menopausal.

I would suggest that you decline doing that. There arise a lot of health complaints: tiredness, feeling like crap, etc from women who do go to the lower dose. I'd suggest that you advocate with your doctor to keep your e-levels up to what they would be for a menstruating gg.

How many gg women are you aware of who spend two years at young to mid-llfe ranges and then go to post-menopausal? Exactly.

In the next few weeks try to discover as much about this as you can so you have some factual info to present to your regular physician if they are supervising your hrt.

Women with a transsexual history are definitely not endocrinologically the same as women who are born with ovaries.

Thanks Nichole, my endocrinologist monitors my estrogen levels, not my primary physician.  She's very supportive, understanding, and knowledgeable, having helped several women in my area.  She trained under another physician, and he's helped many transwomen in the past and they both work together.  I trust her completely.  I actually didn't think of what you're suggesting.  She and I talked about this before over the phone, and we both figured I'd just go to a lower dose, but now I'll revisit the subject with her.  Thanks for the heads up!  Certainly don't want to go into menopause sooner than I have to.  I will talk with her next time I see her (which is a few days prior to the op) about maintaining the same levels as a menstruating gg woman my age.

The finances for my orchi are all in place, and I've been thinking about the procedure a lot lately.  This was the first week of classes, and right off the bat I told my professors that I would be out of school for a week next month, and was having a "minor" surgical procedure.  But the more I think about it, this isn't such a "minor" procedure.  Sure, in a medical sense it's a relatively simple operation, but in another sense, this is anything but "minor."  My orchi is going to be a life-altering, major event for me.  This is the culmination of my transition, and I feel that afterwards my mind, body, and spirit will finally be aligned the way the Lady meant them to be.
