The King family is suing the Oxnard school district claiming its failure to enforce the dress code led to King's death. King reportedly wore feminine clothing and makeup to school.

The suit seeks unspecified damages.

In a notice of claim, Dawn and Gregory King allege that administrators and staff at the school knew their son had "unique vulnerabilities" and was subject to abuse because of his sexuality.

Of course, the school has more money than the shooter does.

The school failed to act, even though they knew there was a problem. I hope that the parents win in court. I went to a high school that was so packed that it was hard to move in the halls during class changes. Yet, the Principal, VP, and a good deal of teachers kept up on almost everything and usually could head off the major problems before they started. Today it seems that schools want to scream, "Not responsible!" and have replaced common sense with "Zero Tolerance" (meaning zero thought) policies but only for situations that are expressly a part of those policies and nothing else.

Clearly, this tragedy could have been averted had the school forced King to dress like a boy.  ::)
