So, I'm just wondering, has anyone who is post-op did anything to help their scar tissue be less visible. Personally, I put some vitamin E on it as well as some scare gone stuff (basically, silicone gel). It seems to work fine so far. And the last doctor I saw was impressed at how well they were healing and actually how good the surgery looked (He'd never seen a post-op girl in person before, so he was impressed and couldn't believe it was only two months ago). I know it can take a while for them to go away, even with using stuff on it. I know some people who haven't used anything, and it mostly goes away (it can take up to a year for them to go away, with scar stuff I don't know if it actually helps it come along faster or not, or if it's just mostly marketing).

Anyway, I was just wondering.

I was going to do Vitamin E, until I read up about it.  It seems like the studies done on it point to it actually not doing the good it's thought to, even causing contact dermatitis in up to 1/3 of people using it.

I also used silicone, first in patch form and then in gel form.  I can't tell really whether it helped or not.  That's the problem, I guess, when using these products, you don't really know whether it caused you to heal better/faster than if you hadn't used it at all.

I used liquid vitamin E for the first two months (after the Polysporin days) and it worked beautifully.

I used Mederma on self-injury scars and it worked very well. Smelled nice too. ;D

Retin A, Renova, or any product that contains retinoid.  Get the lowest strength and see how well you tolerate it first and then go from there!  ;)

Hum.   I think a point goes to Dr. McGinn.  I don't have any visible scars down below, not even after just a month.  She does things just a tad different.  Very cleaver really cause I was expecting scars.  Now after three months, Gee you would not know things had been different.  Of course when I first saw the new plumbing is was more bride of frankenstine.

She places the internal seams along the edge of the new labia.  once things heal the scar blends in and help define the labia.  There are NO visible exterior scars what so ever.   Just FYI

OMG the first time I saw the 'new' area, that was my exact thought.

As a woman of color I am somewhat prone to scarring and
keloiding.

Which is something that I share with my surgeons.

I am an 'old school girl - hence the 'Gee'. When many of my
procedures were performed the technique were much more
invasive, and thus more likely to leave a scar.

However overall I have been fortunate in that I don't have too
many really large scars. Due in large part to having great surgeons,
and my being very aggressive with scar reduction tactics.

In the case of my GRS, I have minimal scarring. What scarring I do
have, I have applied Hydroquinone cream 4% (prescribed dosage),
cocoa butter, and Premarin cream internally.

This combined with the skin re-generating as I have aged has made
the scar fairly neglible. Also at the scar points, I do allow my pubic
hair to cover it somewhat, though my pubic hair is fairly sparse as
I tend not to grow much hair overall. Occasionally I will shave the
region, but for the most part I leave it lightly covered.

Ok I had a little different aproach. I did use any and all creams that were recomended. The thing I did a little different was to lay out in the sun with sun blocker on and hope for the best, which I think I have accomplished. You will have to have a secret place to lay in the nude, but it did work for me

Mine was "Holy hell did he operate on me or just shoot me in the crotch with a rocket launcher?"

I've read bad things about Vitamin E, it seems more like one of those "miracle diet pill!" type of things than anything that has some scientific evidence to it.  Personally I'm just keeping the area clean and dry.  The scars aren't really anything to become obsessed or too concerned about.

I used Retin A cream on my SRS scars until it was so itchy I could barely stand it and I used salt rubs in the shower to clear away the dead skin.  I did that to where I was living in torture for about a year and it helped a lot.

I have a faded and fine horizontal scar on my bikini line that resembles hysterectomy or a Ceassarian scar, its from the colon surgery and i have 2 vertical fine scars running down my labia majora, they are not too bad but i have darkish genital skin so they stand out a bit, i am thinking about camouflaging them by cosmetic tattooing, hopefully they will blend in.

I used Bio Oil and also Vitamin E, Coco Butter. I think its all about keeping the moisture in the skin..

I remember my scars itching because they where healing and then after putting cream/oil on them it was fine.. strange.

I know its not the same sort of scars or surgery.

But I thought I would give you my five pence!

I used Coco Butter, usually applying some at night before I went to bed and slept without panties. This is a left over "habit" from my pre-op days as a guy. I would sleep in shorts or pj bottom's without underware on.  After surgery I still did (do) the same. I'll wear pj bottom's or a nightgown, but no panties.

I found Coco Butter during the day was a rather unconfortable feeling and it stained some of my panties.
