Breaking News: Obama chooses Joe Biden as Vice-President

http://www.bilerico.com/2008/08/obama_chooses_joe_biden_as_vice-presiden.php

The announcement just came out from various news agencies- obamadebate.jpgBarack Obama has named Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) as his vice-presidential running mate.

I wanted to put together a look at Biden's stance on LGBT rights over the years. Biden scored a 78% from the HRC 2006 rankings on LGBT rights. I've gathered information on his votes and quotes about hate crimes legislation, employment discrimination, DADT, immigration equality, marriage equality and civil unions. This list is by no means complete. If you know more information, feel free to leave it in the comments!

Extensive Joe Biden quotes and sources on LGBT issues after the jump.

There is simply something that's sort of disappointing to me about the choice of Joe Biden. A move to take the edge off of the Obama candidacy with a comfortably white 60-something Veep who's now and has been a part of the regular power-structure for the past almost 40 years.

Not sure what I expected, but Joe wasn't she.

Perhaps a good intellectual choice but a hard sell to the unread public. He will challenge Obama on many fronts and does have appeal to the undecided right leaner's. You will have to wait a wee bit longer, perhaps as Nancy ripens some.  Remember you can not win this game unless you play politics. No one issue should be the voters choice but then most voters are not that smart.

Personally I see this as about the stupidest move Obama could have made.  Joe Biden is so far left wing in  areas that he is going to scare some moderate voters away.  I may be wrong but seem to remember something about a "plagiarism in college" thing that may come back to haunt him.  Yeah it was 40 years ago, but if my memory is correct, that's considered academic fraud so it will be used to question his integrity.

Calling his wife, with whom he had an affair while he was married to a woman who had stood by him for the years he was a POW & then divorced so he could take-up with his rich model-beautiful new wife, the c-word shows integrity from Mr. McCain? The Keating Five shows integrity?

That integrity-game is a double-edged sword.

Although Joe would still not be my choice. Actually, if he were eligible to serve as President in our wondrous "democracy" I would think Arnold Schwarzenegger would be an inspired choice for Obama, if he's gonna tap a white European-heritage guy.

O, I'm pretty disappointed by Obama's choice, personally I would've preferred if he choose Dennis Kucinich to be his VP, or Hillary even...but Biden??  Please.  If I had any shred of hope left for the system, it's gone now.  I don't even want to vote.

Nichole, sweetie I didn't say anything about McCain's integrity, just Biden's.  Oh the whole, I wouldn't give you ten cents for the entire lot of them.  Personally, I think anyone who actually wants the stress of the job of POTUS is crazy and in fact, too crazy to actually serve as POTUS.  IMHO, the only people who should really serve as President is someone who doesn't want the job.  Catch-22 anyone?  If you run for President, you're disqualified from running because you're crazy.  But if you don't want the job, you're eligible to run for President because you're not crazy.  But then if you're not crazy and you run for President, you're disqualified from running because...... :o

I'm also very disappointed in his VP choice. But Jenn, we still need to vote, as the alternative could set us back considerably, especially for women, LGBT and anyone else who isn't rich white male.

After 27 years of service for the Feds I can tell you the big fly wheel is hard to change. As with any big ship a course change takes a lot of preparing and when you start it, it is hard to notice a change and takes a long time. But once you start it is hard to stop. You know you are doing good when everyone is complaining a little. This will be a historic election as it already is.

Considering that the people that are members of this forum have more radical views from the norm I can see a wisdom in the choose.

True, but even if Obama/Biden win, things probably won't change much and the status quo will be maintained to keep the puppets in power.

But the people that pull the strings are the voters that do not want much change. They just want their situation to improve and to hell with everyone else.

You think the people pulling the strings are the voters??  We may have the freedom to vote Lisa, but once the new guy comes into office it's back to catering to the special interest groups, lobbyists, and campaign contributors.  They're the ones improving their standing and telling the politicians "to hell with everyone else."  They're the real puppet masters.  The general public, you and me, we have no say in the end.

Quoteback to catering to the special interest groups, lobbyists, and campaign contributors

You vote for those special interest groups by giving them you dollars. Every dollar you spend at Exxon, Walmart, McDonald's, etc. part of it makes its way to the pockets of those politicians.

I don't spend money at Exxon (I'm car-free), Walmart (they mistreat women and minorities, and they sell useless, poorly made junk) or McDonald's (their food tastes like crap).  I support local businesses run by local people as much as possible, and the money is placed back into the community, not into the hands of those greedy crooks in Washington.
