I just saw a re-run of Lando Thomas on Maury. Lando's FTM, and he started transitioning at eighteen. He said that his transition was quick, and that he was a passing man within a month of starting hormones. I was under the impression that it took much longer. How long did it take for you to pass?

You don't even need to be on hormones ^.^ I've passed a few times, it just really depends on when you realize what combination of things people see as the gender you are targeting. Also, other factors matter such as your voice and face and behavior.

Elwood

I already pass and I'm not on hormones.

How fast hormones get started is different for everyone. It depends mostly on the following factors:
1) Your genetics
2) Your age
3) Your dose
4) Any other conditions that may affect it

It usually doesn't take only a month to grow a beard and stuff. Just look at biomale teenagers. Most boys don't grow facial hair until they're in their 20's. It's the rare kid that will sprout a full face of hair at 16.

I have heard things tend to happen in this order:
Moods change
Metabolism/appetite changes
Voice cracks
Body hair
Body composition (muscle/fat distribution)
Voice deepens
Facial hair (a reasonable amount, anyway)

I did not mention to growth of the clitoris because no one has told me when that happens.

It's different for everyone. Some people get a mustache right away. Some people's voices drop really quickly. Some guys never get facial hair. Some guys experience an increase in their size of their hands and feet. Some guys even claim to get taller after they have started T.

Well, I can't' answer your question directly.  But I do think it usually takes longer to transition.  To complete transition in one month on hormones seems far fetched.  Passing?  Sure, for some.  Finished transforming?  No way.  Here is a photo timeline over the course of 5 years for CJ Tune, chairman of Transgender Michigan.

Edit:  I now see a note on his site I have to ask permision before posting a link.

ReEdit:  Posted the link below in a new response.

Elwood's order seems about correct, at least parring with everything I've read/heard. And growth of clit, I've heard from two sources that it starts growing almost immediately after starting HRT, but then again that's only two sources.

Passing can happen anytime, without any hormones or surgery. I know I can pass if I wore a binder and cut my hair. And passing is a relative term anyways, some people just want to look mostly like a guy, some want to be blaringly male, some are okay with simply raising confusion. ;D

That'll be the most "shocking" change for me. "OMG. I have a tiny dick. Huzzah!" Lol... That and my voice. Drastic voice change will be interesting. I've always sounded this way. Pretty androgynous.

Cool, that was helpful.  The voice will be the best part for me, even better than facial hair, I think.  ;D

Pretty cool that a lot of you are already passing. T's like the icing on the cake for you!

I'm actually very lucky, i'm pre-T and dont even have to try lol.
Though i get taken for alot younger which sucks.

Though i can live with it, i pass. So i'm happy.
I act, sound, look and even have mannerism that are, so i've been told very mannish and i've always had them 8)

Yeah. I have certain subtle things that are more boyish. My walk is less swishy, my inflection isn't girly (though it isn't manly either), and I share a lot of mannerisms with my brother.

Still, I'm sure I won't pass until I'm on hormones.. like I said, they're SUBTLE things. You look great though, Marc. :)

Mister

I passed one hundred percent of the time after six weeks of hormones, voice and all.

I passed one hundred precent of the time shirtless in three months.

Didn't take long for me either. I was on a really small dose for three months, then it doubled to about a half of what I take now for three months. I started passing, although as a very young man or boy, during the second increase. I wasn't actually even ready for it, because I never did any RLE and hadn't started dressing male or binding or anything, just dressing androgynously and suddenly people were "sir" all over the place and I still had boobs sticking out. Was a bit awkward.

Great, thanks Glenda! That's fascinating, he changed so drastically over the course of a few years. He looks great.

I imagine you started dressing male pretty quickly then.  :D

My God that link gives me hope. That's AMAZING.

That's why I shake my head when you view your size as an obstacle. Sure, you'd rather be bigger.  But it will not be an obstacle for passing.

I used to date a guy who was 5 foot nothing and 80 pounds wet.  No one thought he was a girl, and I'm sure if someone ever called him a bitch he'd drive over their neck with his Harley.  Transman?  You bet!  Emphasis on the MAN.
  •

Aiden

Well passing hasn't happened really yet.  Though guess being asked if female or male is better maybe
Every day we pass people, do we see them or the mask they wear?
If you live under a mask long enough, does it eventually break or wear down?  Does it become part you?  Maybe alone, they are truly themselves?  Or maybe they have forgotten or buried themselves so long, they forget they are not a mask?

Make that THREE sources.  :D
My first effects were enlarged clit and a mustache.
